Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 4Mar 21, 2017 5:30 pm July 2016 - March 2017: So many things happened in these 8 months. We lost track of all of the contracts, tenders, appointments for both indoor and outdoor features, change of builder midway through the beginning processes, choosing a builder who treated us like we were important, going through council approvals, finance approvals.....take a breath.....and then having to deal with people dumping rubbish on our land in the meantime. Sometimes it didn't work out and we ended up spending $200 to remove the rubbish ourselves. Apparently a common practice but a filthy dishonest practice from my viewpoint! Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 5Mar 21, 2017 6:17 pm 8 March 2017: So after so many months of nothing happening on our land we get our first action! We never thought that we would get so excited about having a portaloo on our land! Then we see the indentation in the ground which is for our sunken home theatre room and all of a sudden we can visualise where things are. Huge sense of both joy and relief to know that we have finally started. Looks like today it was piering day as well as the start of some formwork. Every time there is something new it just gets us more and more pumped even though we are still in the very early stages. We were pleasantly surprised to see some men hard at work getting our internal drainage all sorted out. Also today was the delivery of the pods and steel frames for our slab. All of this happened with huge storms threatening to further delay our build! Till next post everyone! Happy Building! Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 8Mar 21, 2017 6:32 pm 17 March 2017: So i have come to the conclusion that if there is a drought in outback Australia they can send me into the area, I will start to build a house and I will BREAK that drought!!! So after many months we start building and lo and behold we have huge rain which is forecast to last at least 2 weeks if not more. Well were able to get a fence up around our lot which was great. Add in the fact that I got myself a little pool and we have a house that will be delayed for at least 7 days! So we just keep plodding along. Till next time, happy building everyone! Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 9Mar 21, 2017 6:35 pm 21 March 2017: Wasn't expecting much after the rain but my neighbour let me know that they worked through the bad weather and actually got all the formwork finished with pods and wire frames installed! Could not believe it! So basically we are the stage where we are ready to pour! Just waiting for that sunny window where we can get our slab down. I'm not usually the biggest fan of change but when it comes to our build, i'm all for it! Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 12Mar 21, 2017 7:08 pm I really like your indoor pool... I mean sunken theatre room that's a really cool idea! Sucks this bloody rain is ruining the start of people's builds. We got rained out before Xmas for our slab Building with Perry homes: viewtopic.php?t=84756 Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 13Mar 21, 2017 7:12 pm haha thanks nicolawhitelaw! Yes my wife looked at it as the best of both worlds for me. A pool whilst watching tv in my home theatre! You can't really beat that. Yes the rain is frustrating but after months of nothing happening I will take the action so far any day of the week! By the way I love how far you are into your build! I can only wish we were at your stage. Hope the rest of your build goes smoothly and thanks so much for stopping by. Well when I first started stalking other threads on this forum I was waiting to start and other builds had started and now their all moving in it's like omg comeeeee ooonnnn so closeeeee!!! Lol you'll be surprised how fast it goes Building with Perry homes: viewtopic.php?t=84756 Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 15Mar 25, 2017 7:34 pm 25 March 2017: I've been stalking so many of these forums over the last 6 months and I could sense the joy and excitement people showed when they had a slab party! Well today we felt that joy and that rush as we saw our slab being poured. Our pour had already been delayed over a week due to rain and it was booked in today in the hopes that it would not rain during the pour. Well a lot of our prayers were answered as the first drop of rain began to come down the minute the workmen got in their cars and left for the day leaving behind a beautiful slab. My wife said that it was the most beautiful piece of concrete she has ever seen! She had stated previously to me that she wanted a slab as her birthday present (27 March) and sure enough it was delivered! We are so grateful for the many blessings that we have experienced along the way and today's slab was just a reminder of that. Better Built Homes continues to provide excellent service backing up what they say with action. Till next time everyone! Happy Building! Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 18Mar 28, 2017 7:12 pm 28 March 2017: Just happened to be wandering past my land today (which is a 10 minute drive in completely the opposite direction to where I live!) and it looks like there has been a bit of action happening. Frames have been delivered and frame markings have happened on our slab which is great. We got to have a really good look at where all the frames were going and got to see the outline of what has only been on drawings up until this time. Exciting times in our household. Enjoying the fast progress while it lasts! Till next time, Happy Building everyone! Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 19Mar 31, 2017 3:43 pm 31 March 2017: Met Troy and Aaron our site supervisor (and joint owner of the company) on site today and he was extremely helpful. He went through my concerns and was more than willing to discuss the issues which was great. Today they did the external drainage around the house, began connecting our water supply and we also saw the delivery of the rest of the frames and roof trusses for the house. Very busy site which is what any new home builder wants to see! Till next time, Happy Building! Re: Our Better Built Homes Journey 20Apr 07, 2017 4:54 pm 7 April 2017: Got a great text this morning from our site supervisor Aaron who told us that the frame carpenters were on our site today working to get our bottom level framed up. Sure enough on my way to visiting our building site we saw these beautiful structures rising from the ground! It is one thing to imagine what the house would look like with a big slab of concrete. It is something completely different altogether to see the outlines of rooms and hallways and living spaces (and our second floor is not even done yet!). Better Built is saying that they expect all of the framing to be done before easter! Looking forward to a really good week next week as we get to see more and more of the puzzle come together. Again we are grateful for good communication from our builder Better Built Homes and excellent progress in the space of a month. Thanks for visiting everyone. Until next time, Happy Building!
