For the most part it doesnt creak but sometimes and usually when the sun comes out to heat the roof after being blocked by clouds you can hear it creak and pop a bit. Doesnt happen that often and would likely be muffled if i had some insulation. The steel does however transmit noise more than wood, for instance if a door was slammed it would echo throughout the house, if I was to knock on the wall you could hear it well on the other side of the house. But all and all its not a noticable enough difference for it to be an issue i remember the wood frame house I used to live in creaked occasionally too. Re: Noisy steel? 16Feb 18, 2009 1:57 pm I currently live in a Steel framed home..this is my second... we also have a colourbond roof. I have never heard a noise at all from the steel frame. To be honest i would never consider timber again... We were eaten out once in an earlier timber frame home and that is scarey particularly when you find out when you have sold it ( exchanged contracts subject to a building inspection) and bought another home...very messy, stressfull and expensive. Steel for me everytime... steel homes are built to last... and I notice the Sydney harbour bridge was built out of steel not timber... to me there is no comparison... its Rolls Royce stuff !! Life is an enjoyment, enjoy it Re: Noisy steel? 17Feb 18, 2009 2:12 pm Does anyone know what type of timber protection methods there are and how effective they are? White Ants are a concern... unless the treatments available are guaranteed to work? I'm interested to know what prompted you to bump a 2-year old thread Pirahna? As a soon-to-be steel frame builder! JB Noisy steel? 19Feb 03, 2011 10:01 pm Hi! Anyone here have or had a 2 story steel frame home? Is/was it 'unbearably noisy'. I heard 2 story steel is, but single level is ok. I want to build 2 story steel. Thanks for any reply Re: Noisy steel? 20Feb 03, 2011 10:15 pm We just finished building a steel frame home, as we are on a slopping block the house is on a single level at the top and double at the back. IT DOES NOT CREAK IT IS NOT NOISY AT ALL. It did not bother us if we built with steel or timber but the builder wanted to build a steel frame home so he asked if he could do so on our place.
