Hombre wants to have tiles and not worry about the floor getting damaged. I told him that if we will use tiles, my compromise is to look at those extra large rectangular tiles. Looked up photos of floor laid with those massive tiles and I am not finding heaps. If yours is, please share photos. Pretty happy with our kitchen mob as well so far. They're the same kitchen mob that hombre' parents used 10+ years ago and when they had dramas they were quick to come back & fix the problem. Will see how we go first with the whole process with them before I say anything else. Cheers BB! Will see what we end up with. The huge tiles seem to appeal to me now, Hombre just has to find out how to lay them properly. Owner Builders in boot-shaped Yorke Peninsula : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=80264& OB in SA 508Mar 01, 2017 8:44 am Our laundry layout by Hombre given to the custom cabinetry mob. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The washer and dryer will be at a certain height that when you pull the tray out underneath, it is still at a comfortable height (ie no bending). We will only put cabinetry on one side of our laundry and leave the other side empty to have room when ironing etc. That's enough storage for us. The only thing is that it means that our bench space is only 600-700mm. We will get the cut out laminate from the sink so we can put that on top of the sink if we need more bench space. I reckon I will still do the folding while sitting down on the lounge as I do now anyway. We might change the layout a bit, ie like below where the dryer and washer are in between the tall cupboard with adjustable shelving. Going to the kitchen mob tomorrow to finalise colours and to see what they think of the second layout. Will still have the fancy switches but will lose most of the fancy power points. Will only retain the ones in ensuite, powder room, kitchen and lounge for the latter and normal power points for the rest. $40++ down to $8 each power point, that will bring the cost down a lot. Owner Builders in boot-shaped Yorke Peninsula : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=80264& OB in SA 510Mar 01, 2017 9:52 am Searching4 knowledge A light grey can help to give more depth in the top coat, however, the new paints have much better coverage than they used to have. Beetaloo I tinted the undercoat on my build. Just quoting these information again from Beetaloo and Searching4knowledge. This is actually helpful if you are just about to paint. We didn't tint our undercoat, and for one of our more neutral colours (ie the iced violet), Hombre had to do a 3rd coat because you can still see in some areas that the coverage is not that great. We probably could have just picked the areas to touch up but decided to do 3rd coat for the lot. Owner Builders in boot-shaped Yorke Peninsula : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=80264& OB in SA 511Mar 01, 2017 12:56 pm The internal side of the house has now been painted with the exception of the garage. Sore/stiff neck for Hombre these past few weeks. Poor thing! This is the verandah ready for second fix electrical. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I think I am allowed to help paint the garage. Lol! Hombre wants to do the render bit first in the inside of the garage using the granosite product that we got from Solver before painting. He's a bit nervous about it but will give it a go. If it is any good, we will do it for the entire house. Owner Builders in boot-shaped Yorke Peninsula : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=80264& Re: OB in SA 512Mar 02, 2017 2:26 pm So we went to the kitchen place at 7am this morning on my way to work to look at colours and discuss a bit more about the kitchen and laundry. Our kitchen guy was there on time and we spent the next hour discussing our kitchen and laundry. Our laundry layout will be as it is, just that the washer and dryer will have a partition in between. This is so that there's no need to move the basket a whole lot if you are moving stuff from the washer to the dryer (like in layout 2 above). I was worried about the weight but they didn't seem worried. So very happy. Nothing is too complicated for them it seems. We have picked our colours for the kitchen. The colours will be basically the sample that we got a while back. Always the case, you always seem to go back to your first choice. For the cabinetry, they took our sample piece to be sent for colour matching as we could not find the exact match in their samples. Either too dark or too light. Then they will send us a sample piece a week later to sign-off on. I am loving this process. Hope it is as smooth until the end. My wallet would be feeling the hernia now. It is Beetaloo. Hoping to get some discount if we actually go ahead with it. Our wallet is past that, it is on life support now. Lol! Owner Builders in boot-shaped Yorke Peninsula : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=80264& Re: OB in SA 516Mar 02, 2017 10:01 pm I needed about 120m2 of floor tiles for my living areas. I called in on tile suppliers every 2~ 3 months for over a year until tiles that I liked came on the heavily discounted and discontinued list. I got then at $22 plus country delivery instead of $70. (25% of retail price) But I did over order a bit and still have an unopened pallet of tiles. P.S.. As I type this message, my property is under threat from another bush fire. Tomorrow morning the aerial water bombers come in and hopefully that will bring the fire back under control. Hope for you (if you are there at this point) and your property's safety and also of those others that live in the same area. Let us know how it went. Hope the wind blows the right way tonight. Away from you guys.... On tiles: You give me hope Beetaloo! We are open to look at similar tiles that may be a bit cheaper. Our open plan floor incl. pantry is around 100m2. We will also order a bit more than what we need (we did that for our bathroom/laundry tiles) so if we run out or if a tile breaks in the future, we got spares.
