Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 27, 2017 5:11 pm My small dogs keep chewing the fly screen on the back door and I have to put new screen in there. I wanted something that they wont chew through...without having to fork out for crim safe which is wayyyy out of my budget. So Bunnings have this dog fly screen and I wondered if anybody has used it and if it really does what it says it does? Re: Dog Resistant Fly Screen from Bunnings? 4Feb 28, 2017 7:59 pm Yep. Well it was more than fibreglass and slightly cheaper than petmesh. Could have been cheaper but couldn't get anyone to come and cut it off the big rolls so just bought a 2m pre cut one. Re: Dog Resistant Fly Screen from Bunnings? 5Mar 01, 2017 4:22 pm If he is small - could you put in a barrier ? Like a piece of metal to cover the bottom 50 cms of the door. He may give up if he can't do it - and you could remove the barrier over time. Re: Dog Resistant Fly Screen from Bunnings? 6Mar 01, 2017 5:20 pm Thanks for your help Saint Mike. Yes it's a small dog. I put a sheet of thick plastic in there and she pulled it out and ripped it up. I did consider some perspex but worried she might break her teeth trying to get it out. I might consider a barrier again.. Re: Dog Resistant Fly Screen from Bunnings? 7Mar 02, 2017 6:10 am I know there is a much stronger screen. But - we had a Golden Retriever that was scared of storms - he just went straight through it. But - crim-safe etc is the best - but costly. Maybe a barrier - if it can be attached somehow ? Maybe screws. Even using those security type criss-cross metal things might help. If she was young she might well grow out of it. But dogs seem to have minds of their own in some cases ... Re: Dog Resistant Fly Screen from Bunnings? 8Mar 02, 2017 6:38 am Amen to that Saint Mike! Shes a rescue dog. 9 years old. A former puppy mill mama. Spent her life trying to scratch out of a cage. We have taught her to love again, I am going to teach her not to ruin this door if it kills me Crim safe would be ideal, but the price is way out of my budget. Re: Dog Resistant Fly Screen from Bunnings? 9Mar 02, 2017 11:02 pm If the dog is actually chewing the door, would a bitter/spicy deterrent work? You could try putting lots of chili or one of those stop chew dog sprays on the door and see if that helps? She has anxiety and the kids next door throw things at her over the fence. Its completely ripped open and flapping around! Lucky I have enclosed the verandah with a locking exterior door to save me from mozzies and those insufferable little brats next door! I am going to go with the barrier idea. See how she goes. Re: Dog Resistant Fly Screen from Bunnings? 11Mar 09, 2017 4:21 pm Yes - love for the dog - that works. The kids - maybe a 12 Gauge ...
