Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Build a new home from Mcdonald Jones Homes 4Feb 01, 2017 10:34 am So far we have had several problems with our build from block cutting to rough. Sent several emails but very slow to reply and issues still not addressed. We went with MJH because they had a good reputation and the finishes in their displays were far above others we looked at. But seriously bringing to regret our decision. Re: Build a new home from Mcdonald Jones Homes 6Apr 25, 2017 3:33 pm Did our colour selection day yesterday. 28.5k extra for upgrades. 10k of that was for a fireplace so that's not really an upgrade and I do not classify it as an upgrade. So, in reality, the upgrades cost us about 19k. Most of our costs were to upgrade tiling to the wet areas, as their standard range is very basic. So we upgraded to nicer porcelain tiles which ended up costing us another 3.5k or so. We also upgraded the kitchen cupboards as plain Formica panelling wasn't our go. The other major disappointment is their range of internal colours. Again to go outside that range or for feature walls is quite pricey so we left them alone. Most of their other inclusions are quite acceptable. The tapware, exterior choices and furnishing was quite good. Overall we are quite happy with what our overall house should look like once completed. Re: Build a new home from Mcdonald Jones Homes 8Apr 25, 2017 8:32 pm We are allowing 20K for colours and not expecting too much bling Re: Build a new home from Mcdonald Jones Homes 10Apr 26, 2017 8:27 am tashan Oh gosh that is definitely more than I had planned, hmmmm back to the drawing board I guess Tashan ... we spent $3500 in the My Choice selections ... We got everything we wanted in the upgrade package the offered ... granite tops and glass splash back in the kitchen ... we were very impressed wioth their standard finishes. We also got FREE Actron Air Conditioning which was a promo when we signed up .. Re: Build a new home from Mcdonald Jones Homes 11Apr 26, 2017 9:01 am tashan How basic is basic? I have $5,000 budgeted for colour now I am very nervous about how much more it will cost. The exterior colours are fine. You get 3 painted colours for the outside which is not too hard to work with. Eaves, posts and anything else like ours being bag and capped at the front. The interior colour selection is the issue. Not a big range, however, if you stick to the normal range of colours without going for out of the ordinary stuff it's ok. It's when you start going for feature walls which are an additional $400 and if it's outside the colour range it's another $200. We wanted a dark colour ceiling in our media lounge and that cost us an extra $650. If you've budgeted for 5k that should be fine. Unless you want a feature wall in every room etc. Re: Build a new home from Mcdonald Jones Homes 12Apr 28, 2017 9:46 am Hi Tashan, just as a help, these were the upgrades we went for during colours and may help you prioritise the items that you want and need within your budget (please note that we had the impressions package and prices below is what we spent for our house and might not be applicable to yours): 1.
