If your house is too far from the street pole for the cable to reach while maintaining sufficient clearance above the ground, then Optus may need to connect to the power pole and you will need to supply a conduit from the pole to your house. This could have/should have been trenched in at the same time as the power was. Do you have a copper telephone line connected? If so then you may be better off sticking with ADSL. The Optus cable network is being decommissioned as part of the NBN rollout anyway, so you will eventually need to move off the Optus cable and on to FTTN NBN. The builders installed a pole on our property so the power lines on the road go to the pole which is down the front near our driveway and then I believe from the pole to our house is all underground - so no cables overhead attached to our house! Just out of curosity, how far is it from your private power pole to your house structure? For reference, ours is about 6-7 metres, and we're able to have optus run their cabling overhead I had to do this 2 weeks ago. I'm in Melbourne.
