Verandah Roof Upward Slope

Hi

My first post, so hello out there, hope your enjoying your weekend.
We would like to build a verandah deck and make the roof slope upward away from the house as shown in this photo (click on link).

My question is how do you determine the optimum slope, do you mock up a structure and see whats best or is there some science to it.
The deck will be north facing so we want to let north sun in and give a better view of the sky. The deck itself will only be about 300mm from the ground and it will extend out about 4 metres from house.

Something else to consider when planning a roof is the amount of rainwater going into the gutter.

Many gutters and downpipes have only just enough capacity to deal with the flows off the roof. With an additional roof you could be doubling the flow leading to gutter overflow and perhaps penetrating your homes roof.

good point about the gutter, may have to up size the existing one thanks

The other thing about valley gutters (which is what you would have) is that if there is a hail storm and the valley fills with ice, the rain that comes after will flood into the house. I've known of this to happen.
