Teak veneer will look great. I love the look and feel of real timber in the kitchen. Can't wait to see your kitchen. OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 464Dec 04, 2016 11:57 am Making a start on the landscaping. First job is to level out the front and remove the old pavers. I'll put up some ideas / plans that I'm drawing up soon. I don't have any experience in design but I'm happy with how the house turned out so I'll attempt to design the landscaping. Front court yard. Removed the old pavers. We will need to install a couple of soak wells, then run some reticulation and power before replacing the pavers with old reclaimed bricks from the original house. It's a small bathroom but The space works well. The sun light over the shower brings in so much light and the kids love it. Our tapware is the same as the other bathrooms. A combination of Astra walker matt black and aged brass. The original section of the house will get lexicon 1/4 for ceilings and door/frames and the walls will be in Dulux white exchange 1/2. I was originally meant to paint it all myself but I'm focusing my attention on the landscaping and therefore have contracted the painters to do it. They have spent the last 2 days just sealing, patching the 3 rooms. B R O N T E. 43 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=79581 In my opinion skylights are worth their weight in gold. I placed one over each of our showers and they flood the area with natural light. We knew we were going to pick dark grey tiles so it was a must for us. Definitely able to be done later but much easier during build. To give an an idea that small one over the shower is a double glazed velux unit cost us about $300 plus install which was easy. The roofing guys then just flashed/water proofed it. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 470Dec 15, 2016 5:41 pm Back to hard yakka....... My brick layer and I started to work one the front fencing. Got the worst bit of it out of the way - pouring the foundation. I always dread working with concrete. It's both exhausting and stressful. Good news is it all went relatively to plan. Not pretty though. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here is the plan I drew up for my bricklayer. The brickwork will be in long narrow charcoal bricks with a charcoal mortar. There will also be features of cement dado plaster. I've tried to make it look a bit different to the typical front pier fence. It will be finished off the steel slats. The front door has had its under coat in Dulux duck egg blue. It looks exactly as I wanted. Can't wait for the topcoat. Next will be painting the Ballustrade in charcoal micaceous paint. As soon as they started painting it I knew it was going to work perfectly. Yes it makes for a pretty interesting entrance as you can't see the addition from the street. Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 475Dec 24, 2016 1:06 pm Original internal doors were in crappy condition and all had warped so they were replaced with solid timber doors. Shame to paint them really. The Art Deco door hardware is all original but the brass has been acid aged to tone down the shine. Again we have gone with the matt black and aged brass combination. All the gear is from either Rogerseller or Astra walker. Ensuite toilet: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now we have roughly 20 different items to attach to the walls from towel hooks to toilet cleaners etc and I need to be able to drill approx 50 holes through the tough but brittle porcelain tiles. Last thing I want to do is crack or chip a tile. The best way I have found to go through these is by using diamond core drill bits. I've purchased about 20 from eBay for about $1 ea. They only last 2 or so holes and need constant cooling with water so it's a slow process. They achieve a perfect result though. One of my most hated things is loose or wobbly fittings. Drives me nuts. Cheap as chips: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Very tight fit: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Result: powder room toilet roll holder. I would of loved to copy your choices!!! Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 478Jan 22, 2017 7:33 pm Howdy everyone... it's been a while since my last update. We've been away on a short holiday and generally lazing around. Not much has happened with the house but I'm starting to get a move on with the front landscaping. Starting with walls, retic lines etc. I've also drawn up the carport with the intention of starting construction as soon as possible. The initial design was of bricks and tiles to blend in with the front 1930s bungalow but I have decided to industrialize it which will hint at what's at the rear of the house. I'll order the steel once I've poured the footings and hopefully build it myself. I've designed it such that construction should be very easy. Really excited to start removing some of the plywood in our living room. Each door is 2.7m high by 910 wide. The wife and I have had a fun couple of nights painting them. Not. Plan is for them to be installed and glazed on Friday. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: OB Project - "New vs Old" - Nedlands, WA 479Jan 23, 2017 3:21 pm Far out those doors are sexy!!
