I think I may have thought of a solution though.I have a 1200 W sliding fly door which leads out to 8 steps going down. All the risers are at 190 and the top one is onto the deck.If i was to go over the top with new decking the top riser would be 210.,but if I was to cut out the existing decking just in front of the door and recess a coir mat in and trim with some brass angle i think it would look ok.and still have my 190. Peed off.The old jarrah had been down about 15 years, and the newer merbau about 3 and both had aged to around the same colour.Wasn't till I sanded it i realised it had been Jarrah, and of course came up like a patchwork quilt after I oiled it. I think if I was to go over the top with new decking I would run it the other way,and if I sealed the bottom of the new boards first (for cupping) do you think I could get away with 1 screw in the middle, and at about 900C given that I am screwing it to the old deck which is really sound and flat? Probably. But why use screws ? I'd prefer to whip out my nailgun and fire in some 50mm brads at every 450mm. Less noticeable than screw heads. As long as the existing decking is secured down hard , nails should be fine. Stewie Re: radical idea for deck rejuvenation Thoughts please. 11Sep 27, 2016 10:31 pm Mm,be ok wouldn't it,not as if the old deck is going to shrink and cause popping. Could always run a bead of silicon as well. Don't know about you but I am using silicon as an adhesive more and more these days in certain situations. Re: radical idea for deck rejuvenation Thoughts please. 12Sep 28, 2016 12:29 pm Horses for courses. I prefer to use a good grade construction adhesive like Sikkaflex where glue is needed and only use Silicon where a sealant is necessary. I must admit though, silicon does stick like the proverbial to a blanket. Stewie You must be new to the internet. You're also the only person anyone here has ever heard of washing their garage wall.
