Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 09, 2016 2:29 pm Hello, I am in the process of renewing my old kitchen my wife and I opted for an IKEA kitchen.... I had to move few pipes and while the plumber was doing this, I asked to install a tap behind the "fridge". When the plumber did that, he installed the tap way over the fridge height, justifying that by the fact that the tap+filter should not be behind the fridge to avoid the fact that the fridge would stick out too much… he pretty much told me that the cabinet should have a sort of “gap” so it could allow the tap+filter to be over the fridge but still behind the cabinet… The picture attached shows what I managed to understand… Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now, because I will install the cabinets myself, I wonder: - is this design correct? (even the electrician (who came after the plumber) put the power point at the same height) - I was planning to put a over the fridge cabinet 60 cm deep, does it means I should instead use the less deeper version? I know this has been discussed before, but I was wondering how you guys fix it (or would fix it) with IKEA method cabinets…. Worst case scenario I will recall plumber and electrician to move pipes one more time… or maybe just modifying the 60 cm deep cabinet?!??! Mmmm very confused Many thanks in advance. Ivan Re: IKEA Kitchen: Installation of over the fridge cabinet 2Sep 13, 2016 10:29 am I can't see your photos as I'm having problems with the new beta site but most cupboards over fridges are usually short of the full depth ie 300-450 deep which allows for ventilation of the fridge. We used to get the sparky to put the GPO just above the fridge so as you say you can push it all the way back. Taps for water we used to get the plumber to put in the cupboard beside the fridge. Both of these should have easy access to in an emergency. Stewie Re: IKEA Kitchen: Installation of over the fridge cabinet 4Sep 19, 2016 12:10 pm The plumber and electrician are correct. You need a gap at the back so your fridge has air ventilation over the condenser at the back of the fridge, otherwise it won't work efficiently. Use the shallower cabinet.
