Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 14, 2016 5:57 pm Hi all, We are close to signing a contract to build a new home in Brisbane. We want to employ an inspector for all major stages of the build. I am having trouble finding a reputable inspector - all my searches point to your normal building and pest companies. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance. I'm hoping to start a build thread soon. Re: New home build inspector Brisbane reccomendation? 8Aug 18, 2016 12:37 am Make sure whoever you use is being recommended by actual paying customers. I made the mistake of taking a recommendation from this forum and it turns out the person making the recommendation was actually the daughter of the inspector. She couldn't praise him highly enough and did so in numerous posts. Apparently, he fought hard for her against the builder to get everything right. He was the biggest waste of my money in my building process. He missed so many mistakes and didn't know current regulations. Some of the mistakes he missed were unbelievable. The main thing he did was point out the poor paint job. He didn't fight hard for me. I trusted him to find the mistakes my builder made and he missed so many. Again, just be careful as to whose recommendations you listen to. Re: New home build inspector Brisbane reccomendation? 9Aug 23, 2016 1:53 pm Hi Gem, did you end up getting a quote you were happy with? I'm beginning to ponder this now myself... I know that the mortgage company will send someone to sign things off before they release the $$$ for each progress payment... but that guy works for the bank, not for me... And also I know that the council will have to sign off a couple of things, and they won't sign them off if they're not up to scratch... but again, the council dude doesn't work for me... But likewise I don't think I can afford $500 per inspection for 5/6 inspections throughout the build... I have a mate who's a labourer for a builder and I've asked him if his boss, a licenced builder, would be willing to come throw his eye over my build a few times in exchange for a slab of beer or bottle of rum... and then if there's anything he thinks looks suspect THEN I can get an inspector out to have a proper look... Aggghhhhhhhhhh so not sure what to do! I don't have the luxury of a big savings account to dip into for extras like hiring a private building inspector... Re: New home build inspector Brisbane reccomendation? 10Aug 24, 2016 7:29 pm I did and it's less than $500 per inspection! I will pm you my quote. We are getting it for peace of mind in regards to quality control. They will check to make sure the structure and finishes are up to standard. They don't check things like the right tiles in your contract have been used - this is up to you. Re: New home build inspector Brisbane reccomendation? 12Sep 02, 2016 4:40 pm Could you please pm me the quote. Does he service the Gold Coast also? Re: New home build inspector Brisbane reccomendation? 13Sep 02, 2016 4:56 pm Ditto on phil from kspec. Would recommend without a doubt, used him for all 6 stages and didnt cost the earth. Even found more issues than my builder. He also gave me after handover advise on my driveway even though he was not obligated to since driveway was done post handover. I found out the day before and we flew up to check out the site. I spoke with Sokhon from kspec and they still send out the inspector free of charge because she knew we flew up. They are really responsive and very easy to deal with. I would send it to the certifier who is technically your representative and working on your behalf not the builder's 1 2278 Can anyone recommend a good/affordable retaining wall and fence builder that I can get a quote from located in Sydney? 8 45835 If you are in Victoria you have a statutory right to your own building inspector regardless of builder's consent.
