IF you like a colour in another companies colour, you can always get the Dulux equivalent... Just tell the paint shop you want Dulux, but in the Porters colour... They'll have the paint colour combinations... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Looking for a white paint... 3Jan 31, 2009 7:41 am Dulux Antique White USA
There are a few of us on the forum with this colour My house has just been painted throughout with this white but the trims gloss. A beautiful warm white. Mrs B Re: Looking for a white paint... 4Feb 02, 2009 10:50 pm Dulux Vivid White - thats what I wanted, but not sure I got it to be honest.
Apparently my painter guy said that the Vivid White is just the name they give paint in the Dulux range, if it has the anti mould additives for bathrooms etc. Other than that, if you choose Vivid White as your wall colour etc in the WashnWear 101 range - all you are getting is the plain can of white paint as it is off the shelf. Most people start with this can of white paint, and then tint is added. But not in the case of Vivid White! You just get it as it is. Does anyone know anything more .. or am I being told a "white lie" pardon the pun. If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands! Re: Looking for a white paint... 5Feb 04, 2009 12:09 pm I'm not 100% sure which style your going for but one house that comes to mind that was really homely is the house from Something's gotta give - Dianne Keatin?? It had the black timber floors and the slightly warmer paint. I've posted a picture i googled for you from the show - it may give you an idea of what a slightly warmer white would look like with the darker floors.
I do love Antique White USA too and Chalk USA is also really nice and neutral. Depends what look your after.... I put it on some of the skirts and panicked, went back to the paint store and had it tinted to Antique White USA...it is blimmin beautiful! Re: Looking for a white paint... 9Mar 17, 2009 11:37 am YOu could almost say Vivid White is like ceiling white so if you want your walls to look the same as your ceiling go this way otherwise look at The Antique white which is beautiful and there is also Natural white in the Dulux range.....I think lexicon is pretty similar to the vivid so not much difference.
good luck. Re: Looking for a white paint... 10Mar 17, 2009 7:24 pm A while ago I was deciding between Dulux Lexicon and White on White and Michelle explained that Lexicon was a cooler white and White on White was a warmer white - but still white, not creamy or beigey.
I went for White on White, it is white and it's great. Re: Looking for a white paint... 11Apr 21, 2009 4:02 pm Hi everyone - also looking for a white paint. Was very keen on White on white but it is in the colour spectrum range of blue and was told it could look quite blue in certain light. So want some opinions on natural white - much creamier than white on white - also we are at present having a "2 coat system", will this white give good coverage? We have option for third coat for $2500. Am off to dulux tomorrow but thought would post here. If get any pearls of wisdom re best white paints for coverage will post back tomorrow. thanks Re: Looking for a white paint... 13Apr 21, 2009 6:15 pm thanks for bringing this thread back alive bluesteel! I too was swayed to choose white oin white because it was a warm white but looking at the Dulux colour specifier it does look quite blue and we are looking at browns in our decor. Our kitchen is all white, with white tiled splashback so now I am concerned about my choice. ALso in our bedrooms the robe are that really white powder coat/as are my windows (I know - a lotof white). I was considering Fair Bianca it looks a lot less blue. But any other ideas? I'd be interested to hear what you find out bluesteel? Antique White just doesn't do it for me sorry so no-one can sway me towards that- I find it looks pink. Re: Looking for a white paint... 15Apr 21, 2009 10:12 pm Hi Missy, what white did you use on the wall? Your house looks great by the way. Glad you guys started this thread, I am trying to choose a white for the walls and timber work too. Our builder does the same colour for walls and architraves, door frames etc, only that the timber pain will be gloss. We were going to go with White Smoke (taubmans/bristol) but we've just realised that it has a green tinge to it. Does anyone know which Taubmans/Bristol white paints are nice? I don't like any offwhite that has a tinge of cream or pink to it, I will prefer a grey tone... Building a Wisdom Prosperity 23 - http://erwisdomprosperity.blogspot.com/ Re: Looking for a white paint... 18Apr 22, 2009 2:53 am Hey Missy - your white on white looks great but it is a cool white..... We thought we had all our choices locked in my head but last night went on dulux website with the rbg values and you can figure out which spectrum every white is in - ie white on white in blue hog bristle in green antique white pinky browns and on it goes. This may be getting too picky but when I spoke briefly to paint people (at paint shop on monday ) they said that depending on the house some whites will look very blue/pink in dark rooms it does not matter so much in rooms bathed in light because they will look white because of the effect of light. Our family room is north facing so not worried about this but the master is south and I don't want a cold looking bedroom. I only started getting worried re whites when my brother put his two cents in ....a few years ago he renovated and used bristol paints i think the first white he chose (and bought a lot of paint) looked grey and made the first room painted look dead as he described it he ended up with a colour that he can't remember (yes helpful...) that looked great but it was a creamy white and that is the sort of effect I want. But like others cannot be convinced of antique white so looking at natural white. Also am concerned re coverage if need three coats for a very preferred colour will pay extra but if can get a colour that ticks boxes in terms of colour will do that. Will see dulux trade tomorrow and post their wisdom/advice for others to be driven mad by Re: Looking for a white paint... 19Apr 22, 2009 5:09 pm Went to Dulux trade and they were lovely and knowledgable. Compared lots of colours in different lights - warm whites recommended - white swan (yellowish) fair bianca (peachy pinkish) antique white usa (pinky) natural white (grey ....was surprised) and whisper white (yellowish) - the winner was whisper white out of them best coverage because it has black tint in it - was led away from white on white said it would be bluer and had poorer coverage than whisper white. They all look very white in the sun and it is only in shade darker rooms that the yellow/blue pink comes out. So I have decided on whisper white for everything except ceiling ...................... stay tuned for when i change my mind about two or three coats he said does not matter - the clincher is good undercoat which is not often done....hope it helps someone else highly recommend the trade centre were very helpful. Re: Looking for a white paint... 20Apr 22, 2009 5:18 pm thanks for that info bluesteel - I'll be keeping it in mind for when we're choosing our white paint! Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6936 Hi, I am looking into doing a KDR in Melbourne and am contemplating using Kialla Homes. I am looking for feedback on them from others who have built with them. 0 13563 |
