Browse Forums Move Management Re: Moving tips! 21Oct 07, 2014 4:56 pm When you're moving interstate, my best advice is - be organised! Unless you're a frequent mover, moving house is a great time to have that big clean out you'd never gotten around to. Order in a skip a few weeks before your move and make the decision to discard (or give away, where possible), items you neither need nor use. When it comes to packing, move through each room systematically - begin with spare rooms / items that aren't used frequently. Have a color coded sticker system when packing boxes, ie. laundry items - red sticker, master bedroom - blue sticker. Label each box with the name of the room and a brief description of its contents. Always pack boxes so they are full - it means you can stack them without risk of collapse. Clothing, linen and bedding make great fillers for under-filled boxes and will protect more fragile items within. Photograph cabling set-ups for your electronics, so when you arrive at your new location, you can get set up straight away. Where possible, pack electronic items in their original boxes if you have them otherwise use plenty of packing material and padding, and wrap in blankets, pillows or sheets before placing in boxes - clearly marking as fragile. On moving day, each person in the household should keep aside a box or two for last minute items that will be needed first when you arrive at your new location. These can contain items such as a set of sheets, basic toiletries and a towel, a change of clothes and PJ's and favorite toys for the kids. Above all, just remember that moving house is always going to be hard work, but the more organised and prepared you are, the less stressed you will be when you arrive at your new home. There's nothing worse than being unprepared when it's time to move and scrambling to get everything packed. -Use things that are already going to the new location anyway (like suitcases, drawers, crates) to pack things in rather than buying boxes. -Keep food close by during the move, as you may need a quick snack. Re: Moving tips! 24Dec 03, 2015 4:16 pm we moved a lot when i was younger assemble and make all beds, then when you have worked all day your bed is ready for you nothing worse after working all day, get to the stage where you are too tired to do any more then realise your bed hasn't been made tea/coffee milk etc only to make cuppas at new house amazing what you put away while you wait for kettle to boil and whilst you are drinking your cuppa have a trusted friend/relative baby sit young children and pets dont want the dog doing a runner and young children can get bored quickly Re: Moving tips! 25Jul 13, 2016 3:57 pm Recently moved and colour coded boxes & furniture to make life easier for the removalist and us - i.e. any box with a black strip to go into garage, other boxes upstairs and colour coded for kitchen, bedrooms etc. The removalists thanked us and we knew where everything was Re: Moving tips! 26Jun 15, 2017 3:27 pm For all my previous moving experiences, they were a breeze! This is because I would often simply hire a removal company to do everything for me from the start to finish. They pack, load, remove, unpack and even re-assemble for me when necessary. It could otherwise be a rather daunting experience to go through because my family does not consist of many members who could lend a helping hand. Hence, to have professionals assisting me all the way is a really wise choice. Re: Moving tips! 27May 01, 2018 1:19 pm Hi, I recently wrote an article about eco-friendly moving tips. It's a topic I'm really passionate about as I try to make everyday choices that minimise my impact on the environment so it's great to keep thinking of ways to make these same environmentally responsible choices when moving house. https://www.budgetselfpackcontainers.co ... ving-house Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cheers, Clive Budget Self Pack Containers - Dedicated Self Pack Removalist across Australia Website: http://www.budgetselfpackcontainers.com.au Call Us: 1300 659 221 Re: Moving tips! 28Jul 02, 2019 12:10 pm Hi all, We've put together a pre-move checklist which I'd recommend having a look at before you move (you can also print out a PDF of it, if that takes your fancy). It's based on feedback we've received from our staff from thousands of home moves. https://manwithavan.com.au/news-faq/moving-tips/the-mans-moving-checklist There are also a bunch more resources on our website including articles on helping to move an elderly relative, moving with kids, how to pack a box like a pro and more. Hope you find the articles useful. Cheers, Alex Man With A Van Re: Moving tips! 29Dec 13, 2019 1:02 pm
