We went around looking at the different brick walls and narrowed it down to the following bricks (top to bottom):
- Urban One Pepper - Ultra Smooth Rhythm - Symmetry Asphalt Stacked up in the order above, the bricks looked like this: We were also given a list of homes in the area that used those bricks so we could see how they looked in a built house in light and shade - it also gave us some good ideas around colour combinations and materials to use with each of those bricks. After driving around to half a dozen houses we eliminated the Brahman Granite (too dark especially under trees) and the Symmetry Asphalt (a bit too green/grey in light). And then there were 2. We really like the Ultra Smooth Rhythm but as it is a Cat 4 brick, the additional cost was around $22.5k on the Liberty 45. We couldn't justify spending that much to upgrade bricks so we are opting for the Urban One Pepper. I suppose Off White mortar is the usual choice but we were interested to find out more about what people thought about the mortar finishes. There appears to be 4 types of mortar finishes:
- ironed - struck - flush We eliminated raked and struck mortar finishes as they created too many shadows. Ironed is the most common mortar finish but has anyone used flush mortar finish ? Because the brick we have chosen is not smooth, would an ironed mortar finish have a lumpy look when viewed from an angle in light ? M doesn't offer flush mortar joints anymore. Only ironed and rolled these days. @Orph Build thread: viewtopic.php?t=78328 Home Furniture: viewtopic.php?t=80551 Technology Hub: viewtopic.php?t=83663 Landscape Design: viewtopic.php?t=80645 Orpheus Building the Metricon Glendale 38|Sydney Re: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde NSW 36Jun 27, 2016 6:50 am Quirmeball1280 Hello everyone, We went for our Studio M externals appointment earlier this week and chose the external colours for our house. (Sorry the pic looks a tad green because I took the pic in fluorescent lights.) Having stared at it for 2 days now, we still like it so that should be a good sign. The only colour we weren't quite sure about was Lexicon for the eaves. Does anyone have a view about what colour eaves should be ? I've read that some people say white is good, others say it should be a lighter shade of your exterior wall colour. And even with whites, there's so many whites to choose from - some with pink warm undertones like the popular Antique White, others with slight green undertones like whisper white. There are browner undertones such as like stowe white. I think the white we've currently chosen, Lexicon has a grey undertone.. We chose Lexicon half for eaves as it's an off white color so not too bright as compared to full white. @Orph Build thread: viewtopic.php?t=78328 Home Furniture: viewtopic.php?t=80551 Technology Hub: viewtopic.php?t=83663 Landscape Design: viewtopic.php?t=80645 Orpheus Building the Metricon Glendale 38|Sydney Re: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde NSW 37Jun 27, 2016 1:50 pm Thanks Orph, in the end we went for whisper white for the eaves - hopefully it will look ok with the dune fascia and our pepper bricks Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde NSW viewtopic.php?t=82846 Build thread: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde, NSW Re: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde NSW 38Jun 27, 2016 1:54 pm glendale41 Hey Q, have you guys had a walk through Studio M yet? If you havent I would, we had a really good experience at studio M and found everyone there really helpful. We also went way over how much we wanted to spend on internal upgrades but it is what it is.... Enjoy it Thanks for the heads up G41. We went on a tour last weekend and got a feel for the decisions we will need to make. It's really hard to visualise certain colour combinations when it's not there on display to see how it all fits together We also went to the tile showroom and although we like the gloss finish, cause all the display houses use gloss, we might end up with the matt version as it will be less slippery.. Which ever way you guys go im sure it will look awesome Re: Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde NSW 40Jun 27, 2016 2:21 pm Quirmeball1280 glendale41 Hey Q, have you guys had a walk through Studio M yet? Metricon Liberty 45 in Ryde NSW viewtopic.php?t=82846 I concur with the glossy tiles because of the slip factor so we chose natural tile finish. @Orph Build thread: viewtopic.php?t=78328 Home Furniture: viewtopic.php?t=80551 Technology Hub: viewtopic.php?t=83663 Landscape Design: viewtopic.php?t=80645 Orpheus Building the Metricon Glendale 38|Sydney 3 6679 Hi, First of all, thank you to this community for sharing your thoughts and opinions.
