Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Custom framed home WA - Lock up is looming 69Jun 11, 2016 5:44 pm Dropped back in at site on our way through after picking up a new alfresco setting (a pallet furniture situation) for a photo opportunity. In saying that, the builder is full steam ahead before he leaves. Garage pad goes down Monday, tiling starts Tuesday. I am guessing that is only the bathrooms and powder rooms at this point as the laundry has started with the water treatment stuff. He did make a point at our contract signing that he likes to complete all the sealing of the wet areas so that would be adding impetus to get it all done. I am also guessing that he will want to see the next two invoices issued before he catches his flight too. That should mean the sending of the "Lock up" and "Cabinet installed" to my inbox sometime before Thursday Our new expected handover date is towards the end of July. It's not ideal but I think I've burnt myself out with earlier tantrums about delays so will just be happy to see the end . My main reason for pushing for dates now is that I want to get in as quick as possible after handover so really need to line up the dates for the flooring and window coverings. I have a vague idea that I was told 6 weeks for my window coverings to be installed after ordering. After the trip to the block we swung past Harvey Norman and locked in the major appliances not covered by the build (fridge, washer and microwave). I wish I had done more research and could argue that I really got a bargain but at the end of the day, the price was ok and I don't have to think it about it any more! Re: Custom framed home WA - Kind of locked up?? 70Jun 15, 2016 10:12 am The builder flies off tomorrow but he has definitely been pushing ahead. I had a call yesterday to confirm the skirting tile in the wet areas and let me know that they had started on the walls in the shower. I asked about how it was being laid and was a little disappointed to hear they are going straight up in lines (would have preferred brick style). Didn't push the issue as the builder seemed panicked enough that I would ask about them and they had already started. I'll wear that one, I should have asked on the weekend. I think I have already made the builder swear by insisting that a bulkhead be extended in the dining room. It wasn't planned but was needed to accommodate the upper powder room plumbing. The current bulkhead stopped in the middle of a wall . The husband and the builder thought that it was ok but after backing down on Saturday, I asked the builder to pull it through to at least the stair well. My rationale is that it looks stupid at the moment and the gyrock gents have to come back to extend a bulkhead in the kitchen to account for the pantry. Fingers crossed I am right Re: Custom framed home WA - Kind of locked up?? 71Jun 15, 2016 10:29 am How have I missed your updates lol? Your house is looking great Straight up tiles will still look nice. Hmm seems a little strange that they would stop the bulk head, but fingers crossed pulling it through will look better GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Tiling of nib wall in shower | Custom framed home WA 72Jun 16, 2016 9:46 pm Question for those more experienced and knowledgable than me. Is tiling of a nib wall in a shower standard? I expected it to be done in the wall tiles. Both bathroom nibs are currently untiled on the outside and I'm not sure if they won't be at all (unless I ask) or if they are just like that until the cabinet / benchtop is installed. The husband checked and apparently the outside of the nib wall isn't scheduled to be tiled. Trying to decide now whether to ask for it to be done.
Went back to site yesterday and met with the blind company for a final measure and quote. While I was there I grabbed some photos from the lounge / dining. It's getting there.... It's not great (I would prefer that there wasn't one) but it meets my preference for symmetry so I'm counting it as a win Re: Locked up & tiled | Custom framed home WA 77Jun 23, 2016 8:46 pm At least the symmetry will look better, is the builder charging you much to do that? GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 That is the scary bit... I don't know . I am flying a little blind on the final cost of the build. We've allowed $$ for upgrades but none of what has been done so far as has been priced - that I have seen. Re: Locked up & tiled | Custom framed home WA 79Jun 30, 2016 11:44 pm We are going to have a neighbour! The original owner of our land was in contact about the fencing at the front of both of the blocks that were originally his backyard (we've been sharing the cost of the cyclone fencing). Turns out he doesn't need to worry about it anymore as he is soon to be the ex-owner of the other half of his backyard. It will be exciting to see someone else build next to us but I am also relieved that we'll be completely finished before they are likely to start.
