Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 30, 2016 11:39 am After reading many new build threads on here, I've decided to do my own.
I'll warn you now, I'm not really familiar with building jargon but I'll try my best Our journey started in November 2015, we viewed many show homes Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 2Apr 30, 2016 11:48 am We added an extra, fixed window to go into the corner of the family room so that it's more like what's in the show home. We also added a little bit of insulation so that the tv won't be heard in the bedroom and so the shower won't be heard in bed 2. Yesterday we did our tile selections, we're really pleased with them, these are for the en-suite- Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ These are for the main bathroom, toilet and laundry- Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 4Apr 30, 2016 1:31 pm Good to see you've started a thread, another Simonds thread for me to stalk lol What great colour selections. I also like how you made the entrance wider, that's why we're building the Simonds Westbury, because we fell love with the wide entry. Looking forward to following your build, have you signed your contracts yet or have a start date? We're waiting to sign our contracts on the 18/5 and then hopefully start as soon as the plans come back from council. Currently we're waiting on confirmation of what our site costs will be.......this one is a nervous wait. Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 8Apr 30, 2016 2:54 pm So what did you change your tiles to, Marshall? show, show, show! We loved the Palisade as well, but were wanting 'more' house and less outdoors, and we wanted the steel frame as well, having had that before. I actually had to draw my intention for the façade in colour pencils for my hubby - he is NOT by any means a vizualizer. Whaddaya expect from a programmer? Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 9Apr 30, 2016 3:10 pm Funny you should say that, I borrowed my daughters art set and coloured a drawing in but it still wasn't great Tiles are what I added above. Our original tiles where dark charcoal for main bathroom with a thin mosaic tile for the shower for a bit of oooph. It didn't sit well with me. En Suite was black and white large tiles which again, I wasn't convinced by but I was bored after two hours of looking so ended up just agreeing to get out of there Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 10Apr 30, 2016 3:30 pm Oh, I see... I really like the colour of that big grey tile they have going around and behind the bath. Yummo! I like the flooring, too. Laminates have come a long, long way in just the last five years. I'm so glad we waited 'til now to build. Which street are you, if you don't mind me asking? Building with Simonds in Adelaide 11Apr 30, 2016 3:40 pm We were actually going to have tiles, went to carpetcall to select the carpet and saw the laminate. I actually thought it was wood, it's really good quality and we both straight away said, "ohhh I like that"
That big grey tile is what we'll have for the whole bathroom, laundry and toilet, it's not slippery which was another concern for me. Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 12Apr 30, 2016 3:51 pm Oh cool, glad you'll be close... I can spy on your build and steal all the good ideas from you - hahahahahaha It's nice to know we have such great people for neighbours. Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 13Apr 30, 2016 3:59 pm I think so too. It's great how this brings people together. We have always introduced ourselves to new neighbors but we've found that no one has ever introduced themselves to us.. Maybe it's not the done thing anymore. Oh I hope they are good ideas Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 14Apr 30, 2016 4:03 pm Great to see your thread started - and love your colours and images. That kitchen is so gorgeous. We did something similar with "moose" coloured upper cupboards and white below ($150 cost to mix up the cupboard colours) - I bet it won't look like that image though! I see you have a sliding door from bed 4 to the back garden - nice! And I am just drooling over your ensuite shower - looks amazing! Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 16Apr 30, 2016 4:32 pm My daughter used GIMP to mock up our exterior. GIMP is a free alternative to photoshop that can be used to change the colours of things. After downloading GIMP import your photo. She says pick any facade image (as light as possible colours), and open it using GIMP, then use the paintbrush tool to colour the area you want changed. For example she changed the roof tiles to be darker by filling in the area solid black and then setting the layers mode to "darken only". If changing white bricks to red bricks, fill with red. There are tutorials online. Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 17Apr 30, 2016 4:37 pm That shower is amazing - if I'd seen the image before I think I would have changed our bathroom but it is too late now, contract signed. Enjoy yours. Funny about the moose snap. I am in love with the result of kitchen colurs - OH wanted dark benchtop and the only thing that went with it was white, and I did not want a fully white kitchen so the compromise was white cupboards below and moose above, separated by white tile splashback (no budget left for a lovely glass splashback). I think you've made lovely choices. Building with Simonds in Adelaide 18Apr 30, 2016 4:55 pm Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look at GIMP (what a name! Haha)
We think so too, we just wanted something a little different in the en suite and I'm hoping our tile choices will make it look a bit special. We were going to have a white subway tile (we will in butlers pantry) but we will have smoked glass as the kitchen splashback Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 19Apr 30, 2016 6:30 pm Lovely design! Love your choices following along. Re: Building with Simonds in Adelaide 20Apr 30, 2016 6:51 pm Nice choices. I think the dark metalic tiles and wall tiles are the same as ours. ?
