Is it because the carpet on one side has been laid in the opposite direction? I have read that carpet should all be laid in the same direction, but did that just mean the stripes, not off the roll? I need to know for sure to further my discussions with the shop. According to the owner, the shading is due to the way it was rolled up (ie the opposite direction to the other pieces) after rough cutting, for transport to here. I thought that was BS. But what do I know! We asked another carpet layer to come and have a look, but once he saw it, he wouldn't give a straight answer to any of the faults. Sounded like a Pollie (not the parrot type, although they do too). I do know who I won't be asking to fix them, if the owner doesn't make them good. I even asked my ex-BIL, he's been a carpet cleaner for > 25 years. He thought it was laid incorrectly. I also found this a few days (or 6) ago: https://www.hopkinscarpetone.com/resour ... -flooring/ dRdoS7 Re: New carpet installation problems 10Apr 11, 2016 2:40 am Hi Bob Not sure if I will be very helpful here but I've been working at a vacate cleaning company in Melbourne for a few years and I've seen many carpeted rooms while carrying out inspections after the cleaners. There's definitely something wrong with the way they've installed your carpet. I believe it should be laid in the same direction - not only the stripes but off the roll, too. Hope all gets sorted real soon, good luck! Re: New carpet installation problems 11Apr 29, 2016 6:51 am My money is on it being laid in reverse. If so you can tell by running a lint remover (those red suede wand looking things) across both sides of the join in the same way to establish pile direction. If it were legitimate pile reversal or reverse shading then I would always attempt to position that piece somewhere smarter than a butt join. a.) it rarely looks that uniform & only usually affects 2ish metres. The carpet is a little difficult to stop from bending over like it has at the edges but acheivable. (Skirtings are your friend) Give the manufacturer a call and see if their rep will come take a look based on your photos. Might have to bribe them though.
