we chose bedouin beige for the woodwork(skirtings and doors) , ceiling is flat white and walls brie( a shade lighter than bedouin beige. What colour have you chosen for the skirtings? I was wondering if I could go a shade or 2 darker... Re: What colour are your ceilings? 11Jul 16, 2007 3:13 pm Our walls and woodwork are Bristol Sandlight (walls matt, wood gloss).
After some of the comments above I'm hoping that it doesn't look to dark and claustrophobic, but we have higher ceilings (2550mm), and really - who looks at the roof? But it may affect lighting. When we went into the Bristol shop (checking out the colours prior to our selections) the lady in the shop suggested Brie because she had just painted her whole house in it (it looked white to me!). We also got a free colour consult in the shop (by a colour expert) and that lady said that the colours I suggested would work well (at that stage I liked Taubmans Teague and Cafe)... so we matched them as close as possible to the Bristol colours. Semi gloss on the ceilings in all the bedrooms and flat in the main living areas, and that’s only because I had a blank moment and listened to the builders and painter. I personally prefer semi gloss throughout. Light colours bounce light, with semi gloss, it bounces more! I should have listened to my instincts and stuck with semi on the ceilings throughout. When using a light colour, which Winnow is, it’s great to do the one colour throughout, walls and ceiling. The painter does not change colour while painting, it is cheaper this way and you get a cleaner flow of paintwork from one surface to the other. When using slightly stronger colours on your walls, white is the best option. I think it looks great Re: What colour are your ceilings? 14Jul 25, 2007 10:41 am Don't use the pure white for your ceilings.
It will show very clear all imperfections as the paint start ageing – any greasy colours, dust, etc. You will need to repaint your ceioings it much sooner. Instead use very light greyish off-white tones. You wouldn’t notice the colour, when paint is applied to the ceilings, but it will be more practical. It will hide all imperfections, will be easier to cover existing stains and your ceiling will look fresh for much longer. If you don’t want to go into trouble of picking a colour – just add a little bit of a grey tint and a group or two of ochre tint into to your white paint. Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
