Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 13, 2007 3:22 pm Hi all,
The topic of upgrades seems to come up regularly and it really helps reading what other people consider important to up grade. We have built twice before and I still get caught out by forgetting to upgrade certain items for what can be for very little money. I thought it would be fun and interesting to list your most 3 important upgrades that you must definately have before change over. Otherwords, if the builder said to you that only 3 changes could be made what would it be. I will start. 1. Height of ceilings...higher the better 2.9m 2. Stone bench tops to all kitchen and vanities 3. Change the layout of any room to suit our lifestyle There are so many other things I could have picked, but most can be done after change over. Anybody else with ideas.. Mrs B Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 2Jul 13, 2007 3:58 pm Hi Mrs B
I think height of ceilings is a really important one - this would probably be my number 1. I think stone vanity and kitchen benchtops is also an important upgrade. But for my thrid upgrade I'd have to consider the tile finishes - the quality of a lot of the tile finishes used are generally from a more budget range. Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 3Jul 13, 2007 4:10 pm 1. Extend minor bedrooms - many displays have a stupidly large master and tiny other bedrooms.
2. Extend rumpus/family room so big enough for home theatre/pool room etc. How many displays have a "home theatre" setup with a projector and couches about 2m from a huge screen!!! 3. Im also a bit of a sucker for high ceilings! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 4Jul 13, 2007 4:33 pm This is my wishlist. But not overly concerned and can live with what we have.
• Thicker kitchen benchtop. Currently it's only 20mm. Would've liked it to match the thickness of the pantry bench. • Change internal door and external door knobs. Range wasn't all that great. It's ok but has no 'wow' factor. • Slightly modify layout of ensuite to be able to have a door to the toilet. Still haven't grasped the concept of 'open' toilets. Hehe Oh, and if I could included a 4th I would've liked the timber look garage door. [sneakersss] Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 5Jul 13, 2007 5:16 pm My top 3:
1. Ceiling height - I'm pretty tall, so i notice it! 2. Wider garage 3. Big pantry (a non negotiable item, and the reason that some very nice homes are not on our short list). I could obviously think of many more things Perry Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 6Jul 13, 2007 5:31 pm Oh, i want to add a 5th - slightly wider garage. [sneakersss] Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 9Jul 14, 2007 12:03 pm In no particular order:
1/ Natural Gas hooked up to a bbq permanently installed in a big alfresco. 2/ Refrigerated Air Conditioning. The more environmentally unfriendly the better. 3/ An extension on the garage. Minimum width of 7 meters and 9m deep Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 10Jul 16, 2007 7:01 pm Must Do's are:
1. Larger linen and pantry cupboard (hey they count as one). 2. Raise height of ceilings - can make even the smaller houses look and feel bigger. 3. Store room added on to the garage - can live without it. Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 11Jul 16, 2007 7:07 pm Oh and if your wondering why I didn't mention a home theatre it because it should be standard on all home these days Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 13Jul 20, 2007 2:05 pm 1. Higher ceilings - besides obvious reasons, ours would have looked strange otherwise - bullnose verandah would have cut off half of the windows.
2. Bricks - if you have to look at it everyday, wanted the right bricks. 3. Septic - having a biocycle, cost us an extra 4-5k, but worth it in the end. ***If we were having a standard kitchen, the benchtop would have made this list, but Hubby is a cabinet maker so I got lucky in that respect.*** Re: What would your 3 most important upgrades be... 14Jul 28, 2007 1:07 am 1. funky bathtub in the master ensuite, double sink and double shower
2. 2 pack kitchen 3. bigger pantry and linen cupboard other items such as stone benchtops and glass splashbacks are a must! That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 6075 Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
