Ha ha Yes BP. I just think its part of suburbia - you get some stuff blown in at times. BUT - this is so small. I think - as I said - he just doesn't like the tree. His garden is so "perfect". Straight lines - boxed plants, no real flowers, all those pointy green things, an enormous drive way. His lawn is nice - but this tiny bit could be done with a whipper snipper. I feel he's just a whinger. Its odd - him being younger - but they talk as if they are "special". No kids - don't want them. When we first built many years ago - we had an older couple next door. We had a young son at the time and they were so good. We were never great friends - but always had a beer together - and our son would "visit' them. It was nice. They were older than we are now - but we sort of thought this might be how it could be. That's life I guess. Perhaps inform the council of the neighbours plan to cut it down so that if it is, there's some record of the intention."
Definitely agree with this. If you think he will actually go through with it or try to poison it, then perhaps set up a camera pointing at the tree. I know it sounds extreme, but people like this feel entitled for some reason. His little patch of lawn is not your problem, it's not even your tree. Where I live, we are not even allowed to prune the verge trees, we are meant to call the council (although they do get pruned by council every couple of years anyway.) The council may be more interested in this than you think since the tree is on their property and if this idiot gets hurt doing something like this, they may be liable (insurance reasons is why we're not allowed to prune verge trees in my council area.) Thank Pi. Technically his little patch of lawn is on their land too ... Storm in a teacup I know - but I could do without it. Re: Trees and Neighbours ! 25Jan 26, 2016 9:50 am In our council area if you vandalise or remove a tree and you don't own up to it when the council comes knocking, the council puts a big ugly sign in its place informing everyone that no one owned up to the vandalism of the tree, stats about the cost of maintaining trees in the area and a warning to others about vandalism and a number to call if you see anyone vandalising trees. Last time this happened someone cut it off at ground level so they could park in heir nature strip. Sign is still there while the tree regenerates. By the looks of it it's going to be bigger and uglier with the amount of shoots it's put out from the stump lol Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. Re: Trees and Neighbours ! 26Jan 26, 2016 10:27 pm " Technically his little patch of lawn is on their land too" yep, and I can guarantee the council don't give a toss about his lawn either, if it lives, dies etc. But council's employ staff to grow these trees, to a certain size when they plant them out. In my area they also come by with a water truck to water them for the first summer so they do have an investment in these trees. I had a second tree planted on the verge a few years ago, and the guy said it would cost over $150 to buy one that advanced and I agreed with him because they are expensive. I'm not sure but i suspect there may be some requirement to have trees for air quality reasons for example. Councils do care though if there is a liability issue, and they may care that someone is damaging their property that they invested time and wages in. Re: Trees and Neighbours ! 27Jan 27, 2016 11:13 am OK - tree trimmed (by me) - photos taken - letter to Council with attached photos gone - via 'net. Hang onto your hats !
