Browse Forums Increasing Home Value 1 Jan 17, 2016 8:16 pm We are about to start making our colour choices in the next few weeks for the house we are building but will be selling in the next 18 months or so. Right now we are not sure whether to play it safe with neutrals or go with the colour that seems to be the colour of the moment on the Sunny Coast which is grey. I don't mind grey, my husband dislikes it but is willing to live with it if it attracts more buyers. Any thoughts? Re: 'Safe' Or 'Trendy'? 2Jan 23, 2016 7:54 am Grey is a good compromise colour in that you can choose subtle or paler shades of it for a stone kitchen countertop, bathroom tile and/or floor tile to offset otherwise white choices and you still have lots of colour otpions open to you when decorating. http://theastronomycafe.net/111be4f5586aa0f8-grey-and-white-kitchen-cabinets.html Alternatively, the above is using grey accents to show the low impact and easily changeable way to slip some grey in while not locking an entire house into a colour scheme, providing a blank decorative slate. The blank slate may make it easier for potential buyers to envision themselves and their decorative choices in the home and increase value. What sparked this was a loose lay flooring which we both loved in what looked like a pale grey from pictures on the internet and the small square sample we saw. But once we got some planks home for the weekend saw that the colour changed depending on the light and while the background is 'white washed' the grain was pale brown. We could envision it so clearly in our home (modified Ausmar Fairview, bedroom 4 moved up to be behind the Master and beds 2 & 3 pushed to the front to allow for privacy for visitors and 1m added in length through living and bed 4, which can be used as a bedroom or media, also laundry split in half to make a walk-in pantry). I loved your plan, nice to see others building a smaller home, despite blocks becoming smaller I'm amazed at how many people on here are building massive great houses. Re: 'Safe' Or 'Trendy'? 4Jan 25, 2016 11:36 am I know, great to see how everyone's colour and plan choices work out, but being single my budget is not going to allow more than a grand or two each on electrical and flooring extras/upgrades. It is good to see how much people end up spending and stretching out their budget smartly, helps to work out my upper limits and what can and cannot be changed post build. One change we made which is actually saving us money is deleting the tiles in the living area and laying loose lay Decoria vinyl planking. We're not tile lovers at all and thought we would end up having to pay more for the planking but we're actually saving $1200 Re: 'Safe' Or 'Trendy'? 7Oct 04, 2016 2:07 pm I will go to the safe one for me to easy to sell. _____________________________________________________ http://modularwa.com.au/ranges/modular-wa-range/ Re: 'Safe' Or 'Trendy'? 9May 16, 2017 4:41 pm You can answer your question with your own point of view. Since you are going to be a buyer too after selling your house, what are the features of a house that would attract you? Or what are the factors that will influence your buying decision? Does the paint colour matter or are there more important aspects like natural lighting or wood flooring and so on and so forth. Re: 'Safe' Or 'Trendy'? 11Dec 13, 2019 1:02 pm I'm with saint mike, go safe if you want to sell at some point. Trendy colours will put off some buyers and give you a smaller buyers market.
