Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 17, 2016 12:12 pm Hello... I am about to finalise gas / electricity abolition dates. ( Demolition of current house for new house.. I am still living there but would like abolition as soon as possible after moving out). I would appreciate an indication of how quickly gas/electricity was abolished (Victoria). I was advised it can be up to 20 business days after notification and was planning to give notice 1 week earlier? Anyone have abolition actioned under 1 week? Thank you.. Kim Re: Gas and Electricity Abolition timeframe 2Jan 17, 2016 12:33 pm 21 business days is standard. But this is from when the distributor get a work order from your retailer. It takes almost a week for the retailer to raise a work order with the distributor so there is no chance. Your best to submit an abolishment asap with the date you need it done on the form. Gas and Electricity Abolition timeframe 3Jan 17, 2016 9:12 pm Oh my goodness, we found the abolishment of gas such a pain!!!! We had the same thoughts as you. We knew what day we were moving out, so we requested the following day on the abolishment form. Then a few days after putting the form in (which was 3 weeks before the date we requested) I had a bizarre phone call from the gas provider asking if we had moved out. I told them we were still there but would definitely be out by the requested date. She told me they would not accept forms whilst you were still living in the house and that we had to wait till we moved out to even apply!!!! This was the most stupid thing I've ever heard because of course it then takes 3 weeks from when you do apply!! I asked her what would have happened if I said we had moved out already and she said 'we usually drive by to check".... what!!!!!!!!! I called the next day, spoke to someone else and got the same ridiculous story. Anyway, we waited til we moved out, submitted the form the same day...3 weeks later the gas was still not abolished. I called everyday for a week and then it was finally done. A very frustrating experience, especially as we had demolishers on hold.. I'm in Victoria too, hope you have more luck. Electricity was no problem. It took a little over 3 weeks for them to come and put the electricity pit in and cut the old power lines etc. All done while we were still living there. Rain delayed it a few days, that's why it took a bit longer. Funny though, they completely tore up 5 of our neighbours nature strips to do it and didn't touch ours!! Good Luck I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black. The problem is how close can I build to the gas hot water unit? Will I be able to build around it and be… 0 20219 4 10775 you need a fridgie to answer but I would think you vac the whole system then add gas if you have a leak, unless it is new install with the gas already loaded, in that case… 1 3650 |
