Re: Boutique Homes 1575Dec 15, 2015 9:40 pm Hi everyone, It's been awhile since i've posted any updates. Thought i'd share my latest experience with Boutique too. And in complete agreement with thefarmers and szep. Boutique was fantastic and 5 stars up until construction started. Then it was just delays, more delays and unknown delays. First it was the shortage of tradies (that was about a 2-3 week delay), then it was waiting for engineering & fixing of items (another 2 weeks here & there) and then last delay didn't even come with an update or a reason. They promised weekly updates but didn't provide anything last week! What was earlier promised to complete by christmas, was changed to early jan, then mid and now late jan, then who knows?. They said they'll work around the delays, but it doesn't seem like they're doing much prior to christmas. I think at one point we were stuck in 1 phase for over 2-3mths. We started construction in June so I believe we're going to be hitting the 7-8 mths mark which is convenient for them as per contract (so much for the salesperson selling it at usually being done within 4-6mths) but not so much for us. We had the same site manager throughout the build, but he sure wasn't friendly! He has threatened us about going into our house (as we had reported some defects we found during the weekend), and even said you can try getting in to your house when it's locked up...but I guarantee you won't be able to get in. Who does that? Also there were multiple times they said they were ready for this phase to be inspected. Only to discover, that they weren't ready on the day and failed to let me know beforehand. Luckily, we had a really nice inspector and he did what was remaining as part of the next phase. The second time around we couldn't really proceed with the next phase till the inspection was completed, I complained and they paid for the re-inspection to be done. Sigh. The only thing Boutique seems to be on time about is invoicing! I too am upset with the automatic invoicing system that is triggered prior to the phase being complete or the rectifications of the items found during our independent inspection. What's the point of them allowing for it, in fact suggesting it and then only marking things complete when they believe it is so? I've had to go back to our client liason coordinator and accounts to convince them that I wouldn't pay for it until everything's completed, but this has happened across 2-3 phases it's just getting really old and tiring. End of rant. Just so sad and disappointed Re: Boutique Homes 1576Dec 19, 2015 11:59 am Hi jendulz, It is disappointing to hear your experience, but I'm not surprised. I know that technically you shouldn't be in the house whilst it is being built, but I think everyone does it... I would call Boutique and request a new SS saying that you don't want them on your block if he is going to treat you like that. Keep pushing and get a new SS, it really isn't professional. Also, just keep in mind that it is a build site and some things will get fixed later on... whilst I can't image it is an efficient way to build... it is just how they do it! Also, when it is locked up, it keeps the rif-raf out as well! That said, I did get upset during our build when they kept telling us things were completed and they hadn't been. I know there are always going to be delays, but my argument was that there is a difference between 'delay' and saying something was 'complete'. After I raised it, the updates were more accurate and they stopped telling me what might be happening that week and instead told me what had been completed. As a general update, we've been in our house now for almost 2.5 months and our defects list is still being worked on and will hopefully be completed in January. Whilst there are things on the list that have been accomplished and things that are being added as they break, we understand that it is a new house that is settling. That said, their aftercare is horrendous and if you thought you were neglected during construction, this is more of a joke. Good luck with the rest of the build! Re: Boutique Homes 1577Dec 21, 2015 2:50 pm Hi all, After a bit of advice from those who know more about building then I do (which isn't much at all). One thing that is bugging me about our ensuite is the exhaust fan being installed at one end of a double shower, rather than in the centre. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ When I asked our SS about it, his reply was "It has to be installed there as the timbers from the trusses are in the way so it can't go directly in the centre" I found this picture that I took of the frame and I think there is space for the exhaust fan to go in the centre, but husband reckons it wouldn't be exactly in the centre which would look worse than being at one end. What do you think? Is the SS feeding me crap so it doesn't have to be moved? The exhaust fan itself is not very sightly and I would have done the same (placed it in the corner) myself. Boutique Homes 1579Dec 23, 2015 9:25 am Love reading all your build experiences.
