Aesthetically i am not sold on these popups but i guess it is a cheaper way to add floor space especially if all the trusses and framing is prefabricated offsite. I'd have to see a floorplan, some elevations and/or some photos before commenting. I don't understand what you are trying to do but aligning a new roof to an old is not that hard to do.
