Also with appliances, I was reading my contract earlier and it says they have to install within 5 working days of final payment. It is SC14.1.

I wonder what that will mean for those that could potentially get their keys the week of December 14. Would they go without their appliances as M is shutdown the following week (from Tues?). Or will M drag the process so that the keys are handed out when they return in January instead? Or would M just not care to meet the contract requirements!

Time will tell.

The report has a ton of photos which do take up a fair few pages. The biggest things that do not comply with the BCA are the bricks and the sealing of them, along with how the window frames are not sealed.

There are a lot of defects with paint and tiling, and also insulation. Other small things outlined in the report consist of gutters not being cleaned and weep holes full of gunk. There report covers lots of thing i would have never picked up on and I'm glad i forked out the coin (close to $600) to pay for the report. It's only a small amount of the total build cost.

Joel i think pretty much everything you listed occurred in our build too .... We got 2 reports (one pre-gyprock & one around PCI) so all our brick/window issues were fixed by PCI (lots of bricks pulled out & redone!). Our gutters were cleaned i think once (very early in the build) & not since ...they are still filthy. Shame M doesn't identify these issues themselves ....
Brooke i presume/hope your initial $2k rock variation was a P.A.? That is ridiculous that they didn't more accurately upate you at the time ...they would have known those costs pre-slab .... So months and months ago.
Apart from the $7.5k for rock, what were the rest of the variations? We only had one post contract variation (traffic control) which p****d us off no end as we live in a quietish wide street .... Long story, but i think our neighbour kicked up a stink ...but $12k, leaving aside rock, is big!!!
PS happy early xmas everyone ..... This time last year we were sweating it out in a non air conditioned rental with no room for our tree!

(Hubby took the kids to bunnings yesterday & we now have a griswaldish M facade ... We have not had external lights before!)
This time next year everyone already in construction will be in their new homes just like us (& hopefully a few more of you will be in this year !!!)
And notwithstanding all the bit*hing & lamenting (that's what this forum is for, let's face it), i truly believe the final finished product of our house is no worse/no better than any house build with any other rival project home builder .... So, not perfect, not fast (but in our case well within contract time ...not true for many of you at present) ... But not that bad! A truly great average house

This thread has over 7000 posts and there are three other threads before it.
I wonder how all of those now long completed M home builders have found their homes to be?
What are they doing now that their lives aren't consumed with the construction process?

In 5 years when we are all sitting out in our alfresco cooking a BBQ, will we spare a thought for the people in thread 7.0?

I could not sleep last night so I thought I would catch up on the forum. It has been a long time and I have a lot of catching up to do so I started reading from page 350.

I cant comment on five years but 14 months post handover and we are still working on our house.

We had a pool put in last month and yesterday we laid the screed for our pavers. I am totally stuffed today after shoveling 3 1/2 tonne of sand. Paving to start later in the week. Then we have to build the garden beds and water feature, put in gardens, extend the fence (because the pavers come up too high), fence the pool, build a screen around the heat pump and thepool will be done.

Next project is to do more landscaping in the front yard.

Then a fire pit area in the back yard.

After that I might finally start buying furniture for inside. :lol:

14 months later and our theater room is still empty!!!

We have done as much of the work to the house ourselves where we can. My hubby is handy and I make a good apprentice. We like to be able to step back and say "we did that". In the past 14 months I have been an apprentice landscaper, fencer, concreter, electrician (lucky he is qualified), builder as well as the lead flat pack master(while he is my apprentice).

Things would have moved faster if we had not purchased our new mini home, a caravan, earlier this year. But weekends away from the house are well deserved.

Congratulations to all that have received their keys and hang in to those still waiting. Arguments with site supervisors or in our case, admin staff, will soon be a distant memory while you enjoy your new home.

Sounds exhausting Renee .....But fabulous! Neither my hubby nor I are handy (although i would say I have great acquired skills as a flatpack furniture builder!) so doing what you are doing would have been virtually impossible for us, and taken decades!!! We will never have the satisfaction you have of saying "we did this with our own hands" ..... But luckily I'm not too worried about that!
Would love to see some pics of your progress .... !

V your house is lovely. Your furnishings are really lovely as well as the things you chose to upgrade. They hide any average Masteron or Masterton related craftsmanship that's for sure

I have some news, our DA has finally been processed :z:

It only took 9 weeks :roll:

Preparing the block, M want the block grass at ankle height. I'm worried if I get it mowed now that it will be well above ankle height before they do anything. They say they are aiming to be released into construction before the Xmas shut down.

In that case I'll take them (less the gorgeous child ... Sure you want to keep her/him ... Plus i don't think i could do nappies again!)

I always thought the home theatre on the plans was just a "glorified" TV room ... But you, & a few others on this blog, have proved me wrong.
I must be a dinosaur (age wise). Our home theatre (on the plans) looks like this now.

although it initially had a data & tv point in it, i got them moved post-handover by our electrician into the adjacent study (which now has 2 TV & data points ..... & no TV (yet!). Plus the home theatre was the room at the front of our house ... Too much light really for a home theatre!

But i love that cinema idea cassynun ... Bit jealous now! I guess i was influenced by my hate for TV (well, the crappy stuff ... Not the good stuff!). But i LOVE going to the cinema ... Oh well, in the vault for our next build ... Never!

We even bought a nice big whizz bang bells & whistles large wall mounted TV for our upstairs lounge (admittedly designated kids zone) & in the 6 months since we moved in i have not once watched it/sat down for more than 3 minutes on the nice comfy sofa we got to put in front of it. Too busy working to pay off the mortgage

Hopefully you'll actually use the home theatre cassynun ... Report back in in 12 months!

Just thought I'd stop by for my daily Dons rant. Dons deliver my tiles damn it! If I wasn't stuck with these "tilers" due to building with M would have kicked em to the kerb weeks ago. They reckon they will be delivered tomorrow but I've heard that too many times now to believe it. Rant over...
