Why not do a ring around your area and ask if they would take it and if so, for how much? Re: Kitchen Cupboards 3Jan 09, 2009 4:46 pm erinleigh Could we have these cupboards made up and installed or could we buy these cupboards and install them ourselves after completion of the house for a more reasonable cost and if so what cost do you think we'd be looking at? Or is $2,000 reasonable? Thanks in advance! We had exactly the same issue. But we wanted the cornices to go right around the top edge of the overhead cupboards. If you install your c/boards after handover, you'll either have a gap between the top of your cupboards & your ceiling & therefore your cornices OR you'll have to rip out the cornices installed by the builder & do them all over again after you install your cupboards. Does that make sense ? We opted to pay the extra because it wasn't worth doing ourselves, though we knew it was a rip-off! We'll probably cut it back to 4 cupboards and the overhead cupboard in kitchen space, because we'll put the rangehood on the other wall.. might work out a little cheaper for less cupboards. They also want $800 for overhead cupboards in the laundry. What a joke. I might just but a cupboard to put in the laundry instead. Haha. Re: Kitchen Cupboards 5Jan 10, 2009 12:41 pm It can get expensive because the building companies subbie out the work.
1. They mark up on kitchen cabinets and.. 2. They pay a kitchen installer to install them The installer would have a minimum charge for installing the cabinets because sometimes the job is simply too small Re: Kitchen Cupboards 6Jan 10, 2009 7:02 pm We paid an extra $2059 for some cabinetry to be done by PD, but having done a kitchen reno 8 years ago, I thought it was pretty good value. We got all this:
2 extra overheads in laundry (no bulkhead) Overheads to the fridge space with gas lift openers Appliance cupboard Microwave space Largish pot drawer 2 smaller pot drawers. I certainly didn't want to be having to muck around getting extra work done after handover (on top of the floor coverings, blinds, landscaping and all the other little bits and pieces), so it was well worth it. Maybe contact a few kitchen places and ask for a ball park figure for what you want done. If you can get a cheaper quote, including installation and adding bulkheads, cornices etc, then you come out in front. Or you can get flat pack cabinets quite cheaply and DIY - your colour choices are usually limited, but that might not be such an issue in the laundry. That could save you a few $$ anyway. Hi, Can anyone give me approx. price for overhead cupboards. TIA 0 16851 2 6366 that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink 1 7943 |
