Hope you're well, BS12 Re: Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach - Moved in! 933Nov 30, 2015 3:58 pm Haha hi guys! Sorry haven't been on here a great deal lately! To be completely honest not much has happened at home. Used a lot of my budget getting established and now I've kind of settled in and am trying to save again. I was about to start spending some more on decorative items until my car along with everything in it was stolen Got the car back but I had all my BMX racing bike, gear and equipment along with my phone and house keys in it, all of which were gone Insurance has sorted the car but not the contents so I was left fairly out of pocket and on the back foot replacing everything. I'm back on my feet but unfortunately everything at the house has been put on hold for a little while. I was about to buy a nice entertainment unit for the theatre but luckily I didn't as everything got pinched a few days later. I've had a 3kw solar system installed ($3200) of which I'm entitled to a $2500 rebate reimbursement so that was a no brainer. My house faces north so I've gone with an east-west set up. Since its been installed (about 6 weeks now) I'm making between 17 and 21 units a day which is incredibly efficient for 12 panels whilst only using maybe 6 or 7 units a day. For those not in the loop, for every unit generated you get 7c back, and on my Synergy plan I'm charged out at 23c a unit. So realistically I'm looking at cutting my electricity bill in half which is a win Unfortunately there was some ceiling damage during the install due to a dropped tool through the tiles, and even more unfortunate is the average repair job (see pic.) Bummed on this but have been told the guy will come back out to rectify. Some of you may remember that its going into a recess of sorts with minimal room to spare. Well minimal became literally 10mm either side and with a bunch of paint scraped off the walls we eventually got it mounted and it looks awesome! Plans for my next move continually change. One minute I want to decorate, the next minute I want an outdoor setting and the next I want to landscape. With summer here I want to get the landscaping done so that's where my focus is at the moment. In my estate we get a $1500 landscaping package but that basically entitles you to a mulch bomb and a small patch of grass so I'm not going to bother. In the coming weeks I'll build a nice 1.5m deep deck stretching across the front of the house, then some artificial turf and a nice letterbox set up and hopefully have myself a nice front yard around X-mas time before starting on the backyard. That's about all for the moment. The laundry plumbing has a block of some kind that won't go away which is causing my washing machine to hold water - another job to sort out. But beyond all this I'm loving life in my new home! To conclude this post, despite these set backs my spirits won't be dampened. So here's my brand new Christmas tree that's gone up a couple weeks early Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. Right now when you're perched up on the couch it's at perfect eye level First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. Been a while since I checked in, not even sure how many of my followers even still check in here? For those that do, I thought I'd post an update as its been some time and I felt like blogging To be completely honest not a great deal has actually happened, though I do have big plans once the budget starts to play ball! Its been an amazing journey thus far and I'm so lucky to have an amazing girlfriend who's come on board since mid way through the build to help steer me in the right direction and assist in decision making when it comes to finishing and decorating! So since my last check in I (we) have managed to get a little side garden of sorts done. Keeping in mind I've never done anything like this before, I thought it would be a fun project and learning opportunity. When we first started laying the spare pavers I had for an area to store the bins, the whole side garden deal was supposed to be just a temporary fun project. But after finishing its fair to say its going to be permanent Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ From here I'm not sure what to do with the remaining patch of sand down this side of the house, though I do plan to extend the alfresco to the fence (same side as this garden) for a BBQ area so I might just pave the remaining void. I scored a steal on some garage storage! For those unaware, on my floorplan I have a study behind my garage. But I didn't need a study and I wanted a workshop so I never built the connecting wall between the rooms and now have a sweet workshop/storage space that I've always planned on doing up. I wanted to (and still plan to) do a full workshop bench and tool chest set up, but when I came across this on display at Masters I couldn't go past it. I'm forever in and out with my bikes so I wanted a place to store all my gear, parts, tools etc. Scored this whole display unit for $390! And it was all built, all I had to do was get it home (3 x 5 min trips with a wagon - another hilarious adventure) and install a couple of doors! Yew! Last week I just so happened to jump on Gumtree and randomly fancied looking up the term "garage" for some storage ideas. Low and behold the first listing posted (10 mins earlier) was a garage sale with some outdoor furniture to clear. Long story short I like wicker style settings (with wide arm rests on the arm chairs) but was torn between an outdoor lounge setting or a dining setting. Obviously both items are $1000 thereabouts each so buying both was unfeasible, not to mention a lack of space for both. Anyway this Gumtree ad just happened to have both settings that I'd had my eyes on, like the exact ones. So I got on the phone straight away to find out how much she wanted, with a number in mind that I would be willing to spend, considering I'd not at all budgeted for such a purchase. Sure enough I get a reply, asking for a mere $500 for both settings! Which coincidentally was the exact price I was thinking I'd be willing to pay! And its all in near perfect condition, barring some slight fading on the cushions! SOLD! There was that much furniture I had to rent a big moving van to get it all home, which was an epic adventure in itself, and even scored a nice tall pot plant and a hall table for an extra $60 For the moment, I've got it laid out like this, and it will likely have to stay like this until I eventually do my backyard and extend my entertaining area up to the back fence. SO stoked!: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Finally, and maybe the most exciting addition to the house has been my Christmas present! From day one those of you on here know that I've planned an all black kitchen. As progress photos have shown I'm on track with my black fridge etc. My other hand and I had spoken about and agreed that a tinted mirror splashback would definitely be the go, and so she ordered me one for Christmas! The only problem now is that the white paint surrounding the splashback and cupboards stands out something chronic, making overhead cupboards and even painting/wallpapering the surrounds a high priority. Still, so happy! It enforces a maximum 50% grass only, with the other 50% being... mulch. Most residents have opted for a full mulch front yard (aka mulch bomb) and after a couple of weeks all of the sand blows in and it looks like... Sh!t. I'm determined to have a good looking, inviting front landscape so I'm planning on artificial turf, maybe a nice planter box, but more importantly a nice deck wrapping around the front of the house from the porch. The thing is that artificial turf isn't allowed, so I'm basically forced to take the basic landscape package they offer, have the caveat lifted on the block, thennn rip it all out and do it my way. Sucks but its the way it is. So with all this said, the deck materials are ordered and am waiting on arrival And that pretty much brings everything up to date for the moment!
