Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Nov 03, 2015 8:17 pm Hi Guys in my place which is a split level home- the main family area is on the upper level, the floor is yellow tongue and since we have moved in the floor has creaked and squeaked while walking in the lounge...never bothered us too much it tended to bother anyone sleeping down stairs more than anything. Anyway we have pulled up the carpet and intend to get hardwood floorboards installed (glued and secret nailed) over the existing floor. Before this i wanted to rectify the squeaks. So i got my drill and put a fair few screws into the joist around a particularly noisy bit of floor, but bugger me it still squeaks. I have located the spot to put my foot and bring on the squeak - but im not sure if i can actually see the floor move at all but im pretty certain its squeaking on a nail. Ive put a number of extra screws (screwed at an angle) but it persists. In desperation i thought perhaps it was the tongues squeaking so i got some talc and tried around the joins but nope no cigar. Is it worth considering drilling a hole at the joist and injecting liquid nails or similar??
