Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Those with septic tanks... 2Nov 05, 2015 9:59 am We have a worm farm HSTP system here, and sensible usage of cleaners, i.e. don't tip a bucket of battery acid down the toilet bowl, and you should not have a problem. I don't know about other HSTP's, but they should be fairly similar. The more you dilute the stuff going down the drain, the better. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. A lot of cleaning products' labels will indicate if they are septic safe. I have started using some enjo products as well as a new brand I found called Nature Direct. I use normal laundry detergent and haven't had a problem. I don't ever use chlorine based cleaning products as they kill the good bacteria (or worms if you have them). Re: Those with septic tanks... 4Nov 24, 2015 6:53 pm Another question How long did it take for you to get septic approval? Re: Those with septic tanks... 5Nov 24, 2015 8:03 pm In my case, not long at all as I work on the principal that no rejection is a de-facto approval. I suggest that after say 3~4 weeks, a phone call to your council would be in order to ask if there are any problems with your application. Some councils may not give formal approval until after the installation is complete and they have carried out a site inspection. Best to check with your council on their policy in this matter. Re: Those with septic tanks... 8Nov 26, 2015 8:01 pm Apparently bicarb of soda & vinegar is good for your septic, I googled your same question a few months ago & 90% of the answers said so. I cleaned the shower with bicarb & vinegar the other day and was very impressed with the result. I'll try the toilet next. I use normal washing powder and other cleaners are earth choice where possible. The big no no is bleach. No dishwashing tables with power ball and if possible powder not tablets. Anything that says kills 99% germs is a no no. Floors and benches are fine as you throw away the paper towel or tip floor bucket on ground. If your system goes off due to using products or taking antibiotics etc There is a combo of something and sugar you put down sink to bring back balance will ask my wife Re: Those with septic tanks... 10Nov 27, 2015 7:33 am You can get dishwashing tablets that are septic safe too, we use Earth Choice and it says septic safe on the packet. I think it is getting easier to find products as we are becoming more environmentally aware. Quote: All Finish® automatic dishwashing products are safe for septic systems. http://www.finishinfo.com.au/faqs/#faq=3971 We thought so too but when had our first service the guy said avoid ones with power balls and if possible all tablets use the powder or liquid form instead. That was always going to be a challenge and a test of patience. Full marks to your mate.
