I have been asked to do a radio segment once a week talking for 5 minutes on decorating tips. Since I’m the tips queen, I am also finding it hard to know what to talk about, its ALL tips to me! If you were to get tips on a room in your house, which room would you ask about? Which room is your biggest bug bearer? And what would you want to know? Thanks everyone, I’m struggling with this. Gosh, I don't envy you here It can be ever so difficult to provide an answer without a question. I think a good tip would be to stick with generic topics, or things that many people could apply no matter what there homes are like. For example, some easy tips for de-cluttering and making a space feel larger. Perhaps a few practical ideas on storage and organisation or spring cleaning. And what about easy DIY tasks to breath new life into ones old belongings- like refinishing a piece of furniture etc. Best of luck- I'm sure you'll be fine!! Re: Help with tips on decorating 5Jan 06, 2009 8:01 pm Thanks Troy….I’m starting with choosing the right rug for the kitchen, dinning and lounge rooms.
That sound good? Good ideas thanks for that! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help with tips on decorating 6Jan 06, 2009 8:03 pm Hi Mich,
congrats on the segment.. I am certainly no expert on this subject, but what about decorating with kids safety in mind, decorating to declutter, matching colours that wont date too quickly, how to decorate on a budget. My fav room would have to be the 'outdoor' room.. The alfresco/patio/verandah.... We like to live outdoors and would like to bring the decorating outside .. and vise versa.. Hope this helps.. -Sha Re: Help with tips on decorating 7Jan 06, 2009 8:04 pm ohhh sorry Mich.. now I see what you are asking..
OK my fav would have to be wall art for the alfresco area?? -Sha Re: Help with tips on decorating 8Jan 06, 2009 8:07 pm sha Hi Mich, but what about decorating with kids safety in mind, Thanks sha…..this is something I like to talk about and will be doing something on this subject, very good sha! I did a search of 10 keywords here (Michelle's Interior Decorating Lounge)and found the following: -
Number 2 - Walls (330) Number 3 - Kitchens (249) Least poular 3rd Last - Carpets (101) 2nd Last - Bathrooms (98) ninety eight Very Last - Curtains (62) Also rans... Tiles, furniture, bedroom, lounge. Pick any of the top 3. (personally I would pick colour - even though I am colourblind - see I used to be a consultant ) Changes through time, past, present & future... styles and colours Common pitfalls, what is best practice, "not sure?" then where's the safe ground? How long should you keep it that way? Coordinating walls with floor coverings, windows (remember aluminium is the same colour inside and outside it's been a bugbear on this forum). Ed Re: Help with tips on decorating 10Jan 06, 2009 8:16 pm Michelle Thanks Troy….I’m starting with choosing the right rug for the kitchen, dinning and lounge rooms. That sound good? Good ideas thanks for that! I think you're on the right track- sticking with simply tasks that are easy for the DIY'er to undertake. Seeing it will be a regular segment you could really expand week to week... perhaps draw a timeline, and note down what some ideas/tasks along it at each weekly interval. From that have a look and see if you can arrange them in a manner that is complimentary- I guess, you could see it as the homework you are assigning for each week. Re: Help with tips on decorating 11Jan 06, 2009 8:18 pm i know it sounds silly maybe, but how bout basics, i.e cool colours make a room. appear more spacious etc,..warm colours make a room.... and what cool colours you can add with warm colours...and the effect it will have on a room?
What you would put in small spaces....what to avoid putting in small spaces How to make a room appear larger...ummm.....i dunno, there's so many things Re: Help with tips on decorating 12Jan 06, 2009 8:24 pm Thanks everyone!

how about something about incorporating plants in modern decorating schemes. I love plants and have heaps but worried they will look tacky in my new house (when its finally built ) Also I LOVE the Balinese theme but how do you do that without being 'tacky' too? And maybe a simple thing on which colours goes with what colours eg green with brown; purple and ???; red and ??? see I have no Idea which is why my house will be tones of brown! Congrats again on your segment !!! Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do!
