If that's the case few mm out in each tile adds up. Measure the tiles and see if the two match up But I would be asking the question from your site supervisor. Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 7Oct 24, 2015 8:41 pm Yes that's a good point. I think that might be it. They are different tiles. One is 300x600 and the other 300x450. Even though they are both 300 they maybe slightly different being different brands. Next time I'm just doing square Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 8Oct 24, 2015 9:19 pm I would say the tiles are not the same size - and as it has moved up one has lagged behind. The tiler should have checked and offset them completely rather that they way it is - the way it is makes it look like a mistake. Our tiler thought we wouldn't have to have a cut tile as they were 300 but they ended up being 280 tiles so he had to put a cut tile top and bottom rather than a tiny strip at either top or bottom. Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 9Oct 24, 2015 9:22 pm If they are different brands then that may be the problem as although they may both be classed as "300" - one may actually measure 301 and the other 303 which is gonna show up pretty noticeable over 4 or 5 tiles My build with FHBD viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78344 Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 10Oct 24, 2015 9:31 pm No this is not acceptable in my book. For an architect I am not so harsh on detail as I know many are, all finished must line up particularly grout lines unless they are never meant to. HACK architecture Www.hackarchitecture.com.au Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 12Oct 24, 2015 9:36 pm So if they pull them off the shower wall does that Ruin the waterproofing underneath? They also laid the floor tiles in the ensuite in the wrong direction, looks like a few fix it jobs are on the cards now Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 13Oct 24, 2015 10:19 pm That would annoy me, and I'm a fairly easy person - but they need to match or be off set - not kinda and some do and top doesn't type thing. As for the mirror cut - I'm guessing the mirror is larger than that space, so the tops of the tiles will be covered by the bottom frame of the mirror - just ask to double check. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 14Oct 25, 2015 11:59 am Pulling tiles off should be able to be done without damaging the waterproofing, this is not to say it won't be. Keep a close eye on when it is done. (Not always easy to be there at the right time). Maybe you could ask to see the waterproofing once the tiles are off before fixing them again. Yes, this is very inconvenient for the tiler, but there is no reason this should have to be done if care was taken in the first place. HACK architecture Www.hackarchitecture.com.au Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 15Oct 26, 2015 7:48 am Unacceptable. Looks like laziness to me. As for the mirror, don't stress. Volume builders always have the mirror overhanging the tiles by 20mm. It's a nice finish for cheap. Www.FramelessInnovations.com.au Re: How fussy do you get about finishes? 16Oct 26, 2015 9:34 am jessicana10 We are in the process of having our tiles laid and some of the tiles don't line up very well. I'm not thrilled about it but the thought of pulling them off and re doing them seems like a lot of work just for a few tiles that don't line up. I'm just curious what others would do? I don't know if I'm being too picky or not picky enough. These are the shower tiles in the kids bathroom. See how at the bottom of the corner they line up but by the top they are out Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And what do you think about the way these are cut under the mirror in the powder room? Is that normal or not very good? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wow that's awful tiling! I would complain to the builder about it. The tiles are the same size on one edge so there is no reason not to align. Plus the tiles in the ensuite aligns so it looks to be more of a labour issue than design. @ Orph - build thread: viewtopic.php?t=78328 Orpheus Building the Metricon Glendale 38|Sydney How fussy do you get about finishes? 17Oct 26, 2015 1:25 pm You think that's bad. This is what my tiler has done. They don't even finish in the same place!!!! After a few days arguing over it saying I wasn't having it, they have thankfully agreed to have it re done. Not without a fight though. They problem is now, this is all the tiler has done and hasn't been seen or contactable since last Monday . I mean after a few you would tell its not right - why keep going and waste your time - I'm guess it means enough people don't complain and they save out that one - I know I wouldn't accept it. I'm also a fairly easy going person and this is just not right. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 I think the proposal that a supply and demand curve are a natural law are well exaggerated.
