That must be some consolation NR. We had one tree on our site we had to remove to build the house, in addition to that we had 2 large trees, one of them we had to remove for the pool and the other we wanted to keep as it was a lovely old blue gum tree. The council we are in is very conservative and is known to reject DAs to protect trees. However we were lucky they agreed to remove the trees without too much fuss and sadly when they came to inspect the trees, found the blue gum was sickly and needed to removed as well.
Anyway as part of our approvals we need to plant 3 natives to make up for the 3 removed.
Have you considered having a pre-lodgement meeting with council? Most council will be willing to meet you before you lodge the application and alert you to any concerns they may have. At least this way you can put your mind at ease and save time.
Good luck
