Its a little overwhelming but so. much. fun! We have our colour appointment in a few weeks and I am trying to get as much decided and estimated as possible. I know that a lot of the upgrades wil be in the kitchen but the bathrooms have me stumped. Can anyone tell me if they upgraded their cabinets in the bathrooms/ensuites? I know we will be getting drawers, not cupboards, but am not really sure of the difference in the standard/upgrades for the cabinet material. Any suggestions, information or words of wisdom would be very much appreciated. Hi. We got poly kitchen but laminate bathrooms. Our vanities don't look too great I wish we upgraded to polyurethane but I think it costs a fair bit. We did get the gloss or sheen finish can't remember which . Also we only moved in a couple of days ago and realised there are no hand towel hooks or holders. The towel rail is far from vanity so we went to Reece today and bought a hand towel rail $50. We have. Gen y of which most is unavailable now so maybe check the accessories you might need at colours and get it there. We got the baskets too. I would no recommend they are a big and not very pretty ha ha . Gen y range has a nice shelf but it wasn't offered at colours or we would have gotten it. I didn't want w shampoo niche so we need a shelf. The vanity drawers are really big one set is easily enough . The vanities are huge in size you can fit loads in . Buildingthegardenretreat.blogspot.com.au McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 12572Oct 19, 2015 8:09 pm Hi everyone. This might help those getting the wall tv bracket... Something to think about . Just had our tv installed today. The wall bracket where placed by mjh suits tvs that have their bracket in the middle. However we have a Sony tv which has bracket at the bottom so we have ended up with a very high tv on the wall. Looks a bit silly hopefully when we get the lounge it's ok.... But something we had never thought about. The installer said that most tvs have the bracket in the middle . Might be a good idea to check where your tv hangs and mjh can lower the bracket if required? Progress for us.... Laundry stone bench and sink was installed. Splash back and Top cupboards still to go. Deck has started and pool was tiled today. Tiling was completed all in one day. It's white travertine stone coping and the waterline tiles are a mid blue. Probably should have gone lighter ... We picked the colour off the website when we should have really gone to the showroom. Should be ok . Pool will be a very light colour as we are getting white pebble in white cement. Air con is in. Took four guys one day. Luckily for them it wasn't too hot. Every trade had mentioned how hot that roof gets. Fences should go up shortly. Just waiting on neighbours as usual . Neighbour who refused to do a retaining wall has now changed his mind and wants us to pay half for some sleepers on his side now that we have completed a wall on our land . Argh .... We are not paying a cent on principle plus we have spent a fortune going it alone on two retaining walls. The house is looking beautiful but we still have so many boxes around. It feels a bit strange living here . There are usually delivery trucks and workman waking us up at 5am ha ha but we love the house . Can't wait to see the end result. I am sure it is going to look stunning. What type of timber are you using for your decking? Is it spotted gum or merbau? Do you have to leave it for a while before staining it to let the oils leech out and what stain are you going to use? Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much per square metre did the timber look tiles cost and how much were they a square metre to lay? We are so confused as to what flooring we are going to use. Everything seems to be working against us for trying to use solid timber floors so we may need to look at other alternatives. Everything seems to be working against us for trying to use solid timber floors so we may need to look at other alternatives. Hi Cathy Leigh, The timber tiles were about 3k I got 99sqm at $29 . I only really needed about 90 . I bought too much to be safe. Tiler Cost us 6k. Not sure how that compares I may have gotten mates rates as my brother knows the guy . My brother says he is not cheap but will do a decent job. Took him 4 days with a helper. We had about 88sqm to cover I think from memory. They are easy to care for I am happy with the decision. I was told look for a brand name and go Spanish or Italian made only. Got these at t f o but similar in colourtile was $70 a sqm. The decking is spotted gum in the wide boards. A Few timber places told us do not go near merbau as it bleeds like crazy and around a pool will be a right mess. Hubby wanted spotted gum from day one anyway so all good . Timber people said this will last best around a pool compared with the other choices. It was around $10 a lineal metre. We are using a clear protectant on the bottom side and then a spotted gum stain on the top. I know it's hard to know what to do. Timber is beautiful but a pain to look after. Tiles are not as pretty but so easy to mop up. Hubby will be decking for a few weeks now I think it's slow going this decking business! Thanks Hi They are called bosco and colour was taupe and they were Spanish. I paid $29 a square metre. They had four colours all up in the Range I took one of all four and There was a slightly darker colour which I loved but it was too dark when I placed the sample tile in the house. Most tiles at t f o were $5 to buy a sample then you just take home and you can try out what they look like. I also took some samples from Beaumont as well and tried them out .
