In the 2000’s it is a trend to get rid of them. So what have you all done with your walls? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: What do you do with your internal brick walls?? 2May 25, 2007 4:18 pm My parents had dark misson brown feature walls in their place....made the whole house look dark & small! Actually come to think of it everything was misson brown...even the wndow frames!
They weren't intending to stay there long so they just painted everything cream before they sold as they didn't want to spend the money plastering them! Nat Re: What do you do with your internal brick walls?? 3May 25, 2007 4:38 pm Best option is to solid plaster / render them to keep the thermal mass as available mass, but I know a lot of people batten them up and then glue gyprock which is probably cheaper and yes, it makes them look like a 2000's house inside.
Steve Re: What do you do with your internal brick walls?? 4May 26, 2007 10:42 am The old brick wall has popped up with me a few times!!!
It depends on the client’s budget as to what we do with them. Perthgirl…..Mission Brown, yep, it’s a shocker!!! I can’t believe they tried to revive the disgusting colour a few years back….good thing it didn’t really take on that well second time round. Or I’ll be having another go at re-painting it back out in a few mores years again for everyone!!!! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: What do you do with your internal brick walls?? 5May 27, 2007 8:35 pm Well we did this to our little unit we renovated. Typical 70's styling, internal brick with lots of mission brown. I'm still coughing brown/orange dust to this day (got rid of it all but)
Anyway, downstairs we did the rendering with solid plaster over the top. Was a bit exy but get a few quotes and you'll be suprised !! As for uptstaris, we took a different approach and got a plasterer to hang up gyprock (2 bedrooms worth). He didn't use battens, just adhesive and maybe a few nails here and there. Great job and price was excellent. Would have done the same downstairs in hindsight. Just be mindful of things like doorjams etc.. as the added thickness of the plaster will mean you will have to modify them. No big problem, just to be considered. Oh yeah, while you are at it, might as well replace that 70's skirting with some nicer ones !! Furring Channels 6May 30, 2007 1:28 pm I'm looking at plastering my house with some help but my mates have never installed furring channels so looking at whether anyone has advice on fixing furring channels to brick walls.
I have a Victorian Cottage in Northcote but with seasonal movement the render keeps cracking. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Re: What do you do with your internal brick walls?? 8Oct 08, 2015 10:28 am Everything old is new again as the saying goes! so brick feature walls are coming "in" again, but reinvented. We had a beautiful limestone feature wall in our previous house. Quite a few display homes in WA also had some variant of it. Ours was done by a stonemason. The only trouble was the limestone "dust" (teeny tiny pieces of limestone). I had to vaccum the wall every few days. Was it worth it... not sure. Maybe we should have tried to seal it. Other than that I loved the "outside" feel it gave to the room. http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/b609/WestAussieforeva/Sunroom%20Quinns%20Rocks_zpsx3luq34d.jpg Re: What do you do with your internal brick walls?? 9Oct 08, 2015 6:47 pm Treeseachanger How far down did you dig for this old post!! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: What do you do with your internal brick walls?? 14Oct 10, 2015 6:25 pm I have a 1970's house that had dark clinker brick face brick internal walls. I "bagged" the walls using premixed render mix. A typical wall took 2 bags which in todays money equates to $30 per wall. The major cost was painting the render. The main advantage of bagging the wall is the architraves and skirtings can remain in place and it cost almost nothing. All I did was to feather the render down where it reaches windows, doors and skirtings. To use direct stick plaster board would have cost more and all the architraves and skirtings would have to be replaced otherwise there would be some ugly details at these junctions. Just used masonry adhesive at the specified intervals, see page 25 of this document: http://www.gyprock.com.au/Documents/GYP ... 201111.pdf Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7938 Thanks.
