Vinyl wrap is one of the worst products on the market!! Stay away!! 2pac painted? as in 2pac spray painted or hand painted 2pac?? 2pac is applied in Australia with a spray gun in a booth. All the kitchens you see in Australia that have been hand painted are not 2pac! sorry, just seen this reply. 2 pack spray painted. Mmm, this is all very confusing at the moment. I looked at a very expensive display home ($1.7m to build/fit out) on the weekend and it was laminate cupboards. I'm guessing laminate nowadays is a lot better than the old laminate cupboards? I know I need to go into a kitchen supplier and find all this out, but in the meantime can someone tell me what my options are from best to worst (which I suppose is most expensive to least expensive)? And what is ABS edging kitchen cupboard doors? Is that the good type of laminate? Thanks Re: Vinyl Wrap vs 2 Pack/Handpainted 7Oct 10, 2015 6:46 am lazandjohn CuttingEdgeKitchens Vinyl wrap is not an upgrade from Laminate! Vinyl wrap is one of the worst products on the market!! And what is ABS edging kitchen cupboard doors? Is that the good type of laminate? Thanks They are not laminate doors, that I can guarantee you. They would be a melamine door or a gloss acrylic door. Both products are really good and the 1mm ABS edging is very good too. ABS is just a 1mm thick PVC like edge that is applied to all four edges after the door has been cut from a prefinished sheet. 2pac is better than all of them!! I believe your builder reacted like he did when you said hand painted because 2pac isn't hand painted, its spray painted. Hand painted is the same as the finish on your Gyprocker walls. The paint is purchased from a local hardware store and applied with a brush! There is a huge difference in quality between 2pac and hand painted! There is a huge difference in quality between 2pac and hand painted! I actually like the look of hand painted cabinets! And really dislike high gloss .... All a matter of personal taste, and I don't think the quality of hand painted is necessarily inferior to sprayed paint Re: Vinyl Wrap vs 2 Pack/Handpainted 9Oct 12, 2015 1:39 pm ah the old 2 pac versus vinyl debate again. I prefer vinyl any day over paint. But that's just my opinion! With 25 years kitchen experience and a passion for what I do, I have joined this forum to offer advice or at least my opinion on all things relevant to kitchens. I was a cabinetmaker by trade and am now a senior manager of a kitchen company. Re: Vinyl Wrap vs 2 Pack/Handpainted 10Oct 12, 2015 4:15 pm Kitchenpro ah the old 2 pac versus vinyl debate again. I prefer vinyl any day over paint. But that's just my opinion! When you say "paint" do you mean brush paint or 2pac?? Unfortunately for kitchens vinyl has some very large problems even when fitted correctly! My mum had her kitchen cupboards done in vinyl wrap and after a few months we noticed the vinyl wrap on the cupboards next to the rangehood and oven had started to melt. She ended up replacing the vinyl wrap on the cupboards three times only to have them melt again after a few months. Eventually out of complete frustration she replaced the doors with painted doors. They look fantastic and we cannot tell the difference between the doors with vinyl wrap and ones that are painted. Vinyl wrap doors are not worth the hassle. Hope that helps Re: Vinyl Wrap vs 2 Pack/Handpainted 12Oct 24, 2015 1:25 am lenarufus CuttingEdgeKitchens lazandjohn
The paint is purchased from a local hardware store and applied with a brush!
Both 2pac and hand paint come in matt, satin, semi gloss and gloss. There is a huge difference in quality. 2pac is basically the same paint as on your car, yes sure it can chip and scratch(like a car) but imagine painting a car by hand with normal paints(the type people paint kitchen doors with) it just would last. It gets dirty very quickly and doesn't clean anywhere as easily as 2pac! I have seen and built many many kitchens that have had a hand painted finish and with in 3-4 years they look dirty and in need of refinishing. You don't have that issue with 2pac! Hand painted is fine for low use doors like wardrobes but a kitchen is a whole different story!
