White or coloured?

Hey everyone!
We have decisions to make and need some advice....again! We have decided that we can't really afford the extra $4500 for Polytec gloss white doors and so we are back to square one with our kitchen colours. We would love a white kitchen but as we are having Laminex (standard range) we have been advised to have a coloured kitchen. Apparently the white is hard to keep looking clean and has visable join lines. What do you think?

Any light colour will show the joins between the edgebanding and the board to some degree.

Have you been given the option of Polytec Sheen board or similar?
I would see if they can do that for you instead - costs the same or less than Laminech (unless of course your supplier has a very good deal on the standard Laminech colours).

If you want white I would go for it...the edges aren't the most noticeable thing in a kitchen and you will probably see them more yourself because you know they are there.

What would be the issues (if any) of getting laminex doors when you move in and replacing the doors with other ones at a later stage when you have the money?

Mez…are you talking about a white bench top, or just cupboards and surrounds?

Just the cupboards and surrounds Michelle. We have spent alot of our budget on an Ice snow ceasar benchtop.

Going on with the replacing the cupboards idea, can anyone guessimate for me how much kitchen cupboards with an aliminium frame and frosted glass might be? I have thought maybe we could do just the top cupboards that people could see and have the standard laminex everywhere else. Earl - I haven't asked our builder if we can use your suggestions but I am pretty sure the answer would be no - Allworth won't go outside their boundaries....

I'll give it a go though!

We have no joins at all, not even on the back of the Island and all the cupboards have the ABS edging. We had originally planned on having upgraded vinyl wrap in gloss but was talked out of it by most kitchen places due to having young children and the vinyl peeling etc......Personally I think our kitchen looks really nice

There is nothing wrong with white, as you know!

Ohhh and if I ever get a chance to redo one of my kitchens they will be with the frosted doors and aluminium frames as well.

White is good and it won't date as quickly as some other colours. Easy to keep clean and looks nice and fresh

Michelle, it took up all six "tupperware drawers" and I have some big (really big) bowls in the Pantry. It's all stacked really nice and neat so whoever unloads the dishwasher (usually DH) will have to keep it that way :wink:

Like Strumer said, Polytec have a high gloss white laminate. It is REALLY good! Costs heaps less than poly...

I started buying mine before I got married. You should have heard all the comments on moving in day........ 14 years later I'm still getting comments! :roll:

Kexkez, isn't it great that you never have to pay for the replacements? I just got two new lunchboxes last week because they had split. Love that about t/ware.
