Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 26, 2008 8:09 am Hey everyone
We won't be fully renovating our ktichen until July/August of 09 but were considering getting a dishwasher a little sooner...? I just wondered though if it was a good idea to install a dishwasher prior to deciding on and installing a renovated kitchen? Thanks for your input Re: Dishwasher Q - prior to renovation 2Dec 27, 2008 6:12 am Karol,
If a dishwasher is important to your daily kitchen work and you know which model you want to use in your new kitchen then there is no reason why you shouldn't fit one in the kitchen you have at the moment. If you can install it somewhere close to where is will be in the renovated kitchen all the better - and since you are planning on removing the current kitchen anyway you don't have to be too careful about removing exisiting cabinetry to fit the machine in its temporary position. I know that we would not want to spend eight months without a dishwasher if we knew we were going to be installing one. Cheers, Earl Re: Dishwasher Q - prior to renovation 3Dec 27, 2008 6:33 am Just keep in mind the costs of plumbing. Even moving the position of our sink about 1/2 a metre, cost quite a bit more money. Keep this in mind with the new design/renovated kitchen. Re: Dishwasher Q - prior to renovation 4Dec 27, 2008 9:47 am We know exactly where it's going to go in the new kitchen and definitely want it sooner rather than later.
I assume they will just fit the new cabinets around it or will it have to be removed when the old cabinets are taken out? We are actually seriously considering just replacing benchtops and doors at the moment as the carcasses themselves are only three years old! Re: Dishwasher Q - prior to renovation 5Dec 27, 2008 10:14 am Dishwashers are very easily removed and installed - there have been a few threads recently about doing exactly this.
Basically; Create a cavity for the dishwasher by removing existing cabinetry, get services brought in to run dishwasher (power, water in, waste out) and fit dishwasher in cavity. Go for it. It stood to the side and became an extra bench for the few months it was temporarily installed. easier than chopping cupboard and trying to second guess your final design.
