Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 41Jun 04, 2015 11:16 am Thanks all, Yep TraceyWayne, approximately 482 Ton of fill... The builder has a large amount at one of their developments 25 km away, But not enough. So we wait till they can find more, or pay extra for quarry rubble. I asked how much and they reckon about $15K and didn't think we would be interested in that option. We can get some under foundation sand from the quarry 5km up the road for $6.5K It sounds like it is dolomite so just trying to work out if that is suitable. Then will try to negotiate with the builder on splitting the bill. As carting the fill from their development would cost them a few K I'd think. Also I'd rather have aggregate under the slab than clay fill. So things are moving, the wet weather has put a hold on things for now as it's a bit of a bog hole now. At least the soil is well hydrated! I will put some pics up when I get a chance. Cheers. We had the fill brought in and levelled. Trenches and piers dug, the piers are deeper than me 1.8 mt+! Piers have been concreted, Plumbing in, and reo is all in place. At this stage the slab pour is planned for Monday. The weather has been pretty wet of late so just hoping the trenches don't fill up with water and collapse before hand. I'll try to get some pic's up today. Our Build Here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74037&p=1255246#p1255246 Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 48Aug 13, 2015 2:26 pm Congratulation! Weather looks O.K for pour tomorrow so looks like we may have a slab party by the weekend Woo hoo. Hope they let the slab cure for a couple of weeks, so we can have a few games of tennis and ride the skateboards and scooters!! Looks great. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76666 our custom build on 25 acres Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 55Aug 19, 2015 11:12 pm Did they get that slab down yet? You have such a beautiful site Clay. Aldinga is such a peaceful spot ... Lovely coast Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 56Aug 26, 2015 8:48 am Cheers for the well wish's. Sorry been slack. Slab has been done. They've done a pretty good job apart from putting our own use conduits in the wrong spots. But the slab is very level which is good as we're going to use vinyl planks. Pics to follow. Cheers TC don't tell too many people how nice it is down our way!!. Love it No donuts on the bike? Or still to cure? Lol Nice rebate for the brick work ... Keep your eye on the carpenters, don't want any frames hanging off that beautiful work of concrete enmasse! Lovely looking slab clapot, cheers Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 59Aug 27, 2015 8:48 pm Cheers TC, no donuts on this one... it cost to much! Timber and windows are scheduled to be delivered around 9th Sept so moving nicely now. The coms with the builder have been really good this far in too. Our Build Here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74037&p=1255246#p1255246 Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 60Sep 16, 2015 11:25 pm Hey all, Things have been moving along nicely. The frame and windows are in. Unfortunately there was an issue with one of the roof truss's being incorrect. So we are waiting for a new one to arrive and be fitted then the frame will be complete. It was awesome to finally walk through the house and see whether we had got our own design rite. I'm pleased to say that we are generally really happy with the lay out and loving the nice big windows on the North. There was always going to be compromises and have not had the "I wish we had of done this instead" yet! The main living area would of been nice with 2.7 ceilings but still happy with the 2.4's as the main driver was to keep the area warm in winter with less energy consumption - time will tell. I did find that on one side the external beams and piers are around 200 mm inside the edge of the slab. It appears the bricks won't be sitting directly over the beams and piers on that side. I tried to explain this to my inspector, but I don't think he understood what I meant. So I'll sent him a drawing, I took some photos too. Pics to follow...
