Same cable they use for networking computers and phone lines. You could use cat5/6 or telephone cable (4 core) ie austel cable. Rod is able to do all this as well. Re: Foxtel..Changing channels for $1300 !!!Matt ..Rod.Help!! 8Dec 21, 2008 7:50 am I've been using an infra red sender/receiver for Foxtel for about 6 years and in 3 different houses and never had a problem. Never stops working, never gets fuzzy reception. Was $90 well spent. Re: Foxtel..Changing channels for $1300 !!!Matt ..Rod.Help!! 9Dec 21, 2008 3:45 pm hi Hoffies
This is awesome .. 6 yrs .. wow ! Can you tell me the name of the device and from where you got it installed Re: Foxtel..Changing channels for $1300 !!!Matt ..Rod.Help!! 10Dec 22, 2008 12:14 pm Hi Noni
Make sure that your builder uses either Tri Shield or Quad Shield cabling for any TV / Foxtel points. Also by using the F-Type connectors you get less signal loss. If they are connecting these points to 1 antenna using a 3 way splitter, then just change the splitter for a multiswitch and add the satellites into the input, then use a diplexer at the end of each run. Are you having IQ / IQ2? IQ by satellite requires at least 2 cable runs from the satellite dish to the point in the home. This is due to the V & H polarities used by the decoder, some channels come through the V & some through the H. We are doing the following pre-wiring in our home for TV / Foxtel. 2 Quad shield cable runs from each of 4 bedrooms/study to a central place in the roof cavity near the man-hole & powerpoint / light. 2 Quad Shield runs to both living rooms 4 Quad Shield runs to H.T. room 1 Quad Shield run to garage. 1 Cat 5 cable run to each room, including behind the fridge into the study One run of quad shield into each of the rooms is a spare, for potential later use. Our satellite dish(es) & TV Antenna will connect to what is called a multiswitch (in our case 5 input / 8 output) 2 V inputs, 2 H inputs & 1 Terrestrial Antenna input. We possibly also require a signal amplifier This multiswitch will be installed in the roof in an easily accessable location so I can add further satellite dishes or change cabling if required. By using the multiswitch, you could have up to 8 decoders running off the one dish. I'll only ever have 2 Foxtel decoders & 1 international decoder. The Antenna UHF/VHF in will have a combiner allowing me to output the RF signal from Foxtel / other satellite back into the system and tune into any TV as a UHF channel.(1 run from th H.T. is used for this return signal) A diplexer is then used at the end of the run splitting the satellite & Terrestrial signals either way. The terrestrial end goes into the TV for FTA channels, including whats on the Foxtel / Satellite decoder from the H.T. Room The satellite end can be used for the second foxtel /other satellite decoder if required. Eg. This gives me the option to move a foxtel box from one room to another easily for a better picture quality by using Component or S-Video connectors. Hope this doesn't sound too complicated. Cheers, jamestheoz Is it just me or did everyone else get lost after the: "We are doing the following pre-wiring in our home for TV / Foxtel. " bit? Could you draw a diagram? I just got a quote from the person for the installation.. this is what he had to say : 1. Supply and install 1 x Foxtel & IQ prewire to roof area for connection at a later date. 2. Supply and install 1 x Foxtel back feed lead to roof for connection onto television coaxial. 3. Supply and install 1 x Back feed lead for satellite set top box to roof area for connection into television coaxial. 4. Supply and install RF Modulator for Foxtel/IQ box. 5. Supply and install fly leads/scart leads as required Is this ok or should I be looking at something more ? (To tell u the trust some of this also goes over my head !! Re: Foxtel..Changing channels for $1300 !!!Matt ..Rod.Help!! 14Dec 22, 2008 1:49 pm Attached is a basic concept drawing of the TV cabling plan.
Excluded is Cat 5 cabling which goes into the same wallplate as the TV cable All cable is Quad Shield cable. A 300m roll should cost about $150, maybe cheaper on ebay. Don't bother at retail electronics stores as they charge per metre and worse than a wounded bull! Try Middy's or Leckys, etc. and ask for trade pricing! Can you tell me the name of the device and from where you got it installed The brand is Smart Connect. It's a 2.4ghz audio/video sender receiver. Got it from Tandy or **** Smith. You just plug it into your TV's. Re: Foxtel..Changing channels for $1300 !!!Matt ..Rod.Help!! 16Apr 01, 2010 4:13 pm jamestheoz Both images got 404 Not Found Error.. Did you removed the pictures??
