Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 12702Aug 03, 2015 7:46 pm amazingk Hi, I just realized that the House Main Circuit Breaker is located outside of the house in the same enclosure as the Utility Power Meter as standard. I do not like the idea of the main power can be switched off by anyone from outside the house. Has anyone opt for the Main Circuit Breaker installed within the house and what are the charges like? Hi amazingk, not sure if it is a Standards thing as to why it would be wired that way (& therefore unable to be changed) but it may be worth checking http://www.wiringrules.standards.org.au as a place to start. Otherwise, I have always used the utility lock relevant to the electricity supplier (not anything to do with the electricity retailer) in the area on the covering door (available from particular locksmiths), & I've never had a problem with power outages due to unauthorised access with the lock in place. This may be a cheaper option than changing the location. All the best with it. We opted for no diamond grills but tuff screen mesh.$890 alfresco / $424 for laundry. Unless things have changed from when I undertook my studies, The main power must be able to be turned off from the outside in case of fire etc. Deposit paid 3/9/14. Tender signed 3/10/14. Is that the same "rule" for electricals? We added something just recently and i was very surprised that we were not charged a variation fee. Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 12711Aug 04, 2015 8:07 pm Yes, thats right and I was also told about it. My electricals bill was $1300 on the first visit after which I updated to $2135 after 2 weeks. Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 12712Aug 04, 2015 8:32 pm @venniechada thanks! and that's good to know wrt electricals!! Did anyone have any luck with DiLorenzo? I tried to upgrade one of my areas after the 2nd quote and was told it would incur a $250 admin fee. Had no luck of having them waive it, so I didn't upgrade anymore. So here's a tip for everyone else wrt DiLorenzo: during your first appointment, make sure you upgrade *all* areas with *anything* you *might* want to change. At least that way, you are told what the upgrade cost will be. Then for your free 2nd quote, downgrade everything you don't want to spend money on. Only way to do it if you want to stick to a budget like us. I have been told that I have only 1 appointment with Di Lorenzo, how many color selection appointment you can make ? btw, whats everybody time frame for the building ? I am building a single storey and they are asking for 30 weeks ? its like building a double storey... Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 12716Aug 05, 2015 7:12 am @Steven_La: You are correct, there is only 1 appointment with Di Lorenzo. You attend the appointment (and using common sense you would arrive having done some decent research/have your colour choices roughly decided upon), and then if you need to change your mind, Di Lorenzo give you one opportunity to alter your selections without charging you a fee for the privilege - and you do this via phone or email. My build timeframe was initially 6-8 months for a single storey home, however due to the shortage of tradespeople at the time, my build started in mid September '14 & was completed 20 July '15; ~40 weeks (taking into account the Christmas shutdown & inclement weather also). I didn't have a problem with the timeframe since I would much prefer something gets done properly & lasts, rather than gets rushed & problems arise later. We are still waiting on some PCVs even though our second selection appointment was over 5 weeks ago. Does anyone know whether we have to deal with the customer service administrator once all the paperwork is complete and the build has commenced? Without going into detail, the person we are dealing with isn't very good at their job and are providing a very negative impression of Eden Brae. I'm wondering whether it is worth asking for someone else. Thanks! Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 12718Aug 05, 2015 11:49 am Hi Marko56 & pixigt25, thanks for your reply. Your points are valid. Well the reason is that I'm thinking of getting home automation (controlling lights, blinds & security system) and I may go forward with a structured wiring to accommodate. So I wonder how that will work with the main circuits outside of the house. My construction is starting and I plan to discuss this with Home Smart Innovation soon. Has anyone done electrical changes while in construction? How much did EBH and HSI charge for the admin fee? Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 12719Aug 05, 2015 4:39 pm Quick question, what is the standard lightbulb that EB puts in the batten holder? What wattage and is it bayonet or Edison screw? I think the CSA comes back in to play for handover but that's about it.
