Hi, I am garden retreat but when I used tapatalk from my phone it used my google log on not sure what happened there? and i posted about 10 times by accident hahahah Where are you building and which house design have you gone with? CathyLeigh Building the Garden Retreat One with MacDonald Jones http://buildingthegardenretreat.blogspot.com.au/ Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 11736Jul 09, 2015 9:21 pm Firsthomebuild Hi all, I'm a newbie here. Been following the thread for quite sometime. And hope you guys can sheer some lights on building with McJones. Anyone knows if McJones gives away some extras FOC? Do we get nasty surprises during construction ($$$$) . Does their base price includes M class soil. I have the quotation back where they qouted for H1 but I have another tender from another builder that came back with a M class after the soil test. Anyone of you got refund for the soil class spec? Hi, We are almost at the 3 month mark into our build. We have H class slab. The only surprises so far - outdoor plumbing hit rock (extra $1700) this was unexpected but you are told this can happen. Also about $1200 in dirt removal after piering and outdoor plumbing. That's it so far. We are going to have some much bigger retaining walls than we thought but that is no fault of MJH. CSO is excellent, SS seems good, have only met him once maybe twice. My only frustration is the slowness of it all. We seem to sit there for weeks on end whilst the neighbourhood is sprouting up around us. I know you shouldn't compare your build but check out jomarshall build... having kitchen installed and we just had bricks finished today....got slab on same day... so big variance on how slow or fast the build is. That's the only gripe we have really (sorry for whining again everyone ;>) . But everyone I know who has built a house (with other companies ) has had an awful time. guy I worked with hit rock on his build and was hit with 50K, my dad recently built with Masterton which took close to two years to complete. was a nightmare and many mistakes.... so this is a walk in the park hahaha. The house we chose is so great I would say no regrets with choosing MJH. It was more expensive than the other homes we looked at, but the floor plan and display home won us over. We couldn't pick another home and say we were building our favourite house. I just wish I had picked a couple of things at colours that I thought I didn't need at the time but really wish I had now. There is only one MJH completed home on our street (that I can tell, but a few still in progress) and it is honestly one of the best looking house in the estate. good luck with everything. We were placed on the construction list on Tuesday! How long were you on the construction list before they started?? only a couple of days ! Building the Garden Retreat One with MacDonald Jones http://buildingthegardenretreat.blogspot.com.au/ Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 11738Jul 10, 2015 1:01 am emash8785 Can anyone shed any light on the timber flooring choices? Or what is available other than tiling the floors. I'm having a hard time deciding what to do about the flooring- to go with MJH or do it afterwards. Is it Gerflor branded laminates? Thanks! It's Gerflor vinyl clic, I remember. We chose that yesterday Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 11739Jul 10, 2015 1:15 am Nice photos everyone! So happy for you guys!!! Love your internal doors, cwiseman!!!! We got similar ones, cost us a looooooot more than we expected! Btw what colour is your kitchen splashback? We picked grey, not sure if it is the same grey.
