Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 2Jun 14, 2015 5:13 pm Thought I would also post our colour selections. My ever patient hubby is happy to hear that I "think" I am finally happy with my choices although I am sure he wont be surprised if I change my mind yet again. I am very lucky that he is happy to leave those parts of the build up to me
So exterior colours - first pic is my colour inspo pic. The front of our house will look similar. Roof and gutters will be Colourbond Ironstone. Facia's and downpipes will be Surfmist which I am hoping will look "white" from a distance (still thinking about this one!). Main house colour and gables will be a grey/blue Windows will be white. Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 3Jun 14, 2015 5:47 pm Interior colours Main wall colour will be Antique White USA or something similar probably in a 1/2 with doors and trims in a 1/4 shade. I may go something slightly different (warmer with beige tones) in the bathrooms and a feature wall in the master bedroom and lounge. Carpets will be a charcoal / brown colour. We haven't completely decided on the main floors yet but it will be either bamboo, real wood or wood look tiles in a honey / tassie oak colour. Kitchen colours This is my inspo pic - with benchtops and splashback lighter - our kitchen has the same layout Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Benchtops - We have been told that it will be around $6k to upgrade to stone benchtops. We are trying to keep within a budget and have chosen to upgrade structual parts of the house (high ceilings, verandahs, alfresco, a big shed for hubby etc) so for now we are going with tightform laminate benchtops in Pure Mineral stone and will upgrade the benches in a few years. This is the one area hubby has had an opinion on so I am letting the stone go (for now ) Back of kitchen bench - Laminex Avignon Walnut (also using this in bathrooms and laundry) Bathrooms Benchtops - Avignon Walnut horizontal grain - white cabinets - grey/brown floor tile Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Laundry - reverse on bathroom colours Cabinets will be in Avignon Walnut (vertical grain) with Laminex Fresh snow tightform benchtop. Same floor tile as bathroom. Any comments or suggestions welcome Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 4Jun 15, 2015 8:39 am Nice colour selections Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 5Jun 15, 2015 9:16 am Fantastic design and great colour choices. Exterior will look amazing!!! I am a big fan of the Avignon walnut as we have it in our laundry and main bathroom If you can I would definitely go with stone just in the kitchen. I don't think you will be sorry - may take a bit more arm twisting of the hubby Looking forward to following your build - going to be a beautiful house:) Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 6Jun 15, 2015 8:46 pm Perth_Euro Nice colour selections Thanks Perth_Euro. Have started following your build. Love your house plan and the area you are building in looks lovely! I have just realised it was your bathroom that sold me on using the Avignon Walnut for my vanity tops, I had originally gone with something darker but it was never quite what I had in mind. Believe me I am still working on the stone. I am hoping our site costs are minimal (sandy block) so then the extra I budgeted for may be able to go to something else Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 8Jun 15, 2015 9:23 pm mellianne5 Thanks Perth_Euro. Very nervous about design, nothing beats walking through a house before building. Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 9Jun 15, 2015 9:27 pm Love your design and all your colour choices, will look absolutely stunning. Really looking forward to seeing it all come together. It was your bathroom inspiration which is the dale Alcock kayana display home bathroom which sold me on the walnut. I'm sure you will love it because it will be YOUR design! I think we always question our choices (I say as I am going over our plans for the 500th time!!). I love the sunsets and so look forward to evenings sitting on our verandah with a glass of wine and watching them. Unfortunately we won't be moving straight in as we live and work four hours from our block and our youngest two are settled into school here. Will just have to settle for every other weekend to begin with Going to check out your thread .. Our son is building in Baldivas as well! Sounds like the perfect place to have a home I am sure it will be hard not being able to move straight away, but how rewarding is it knowing you have created the perfect home to live in in the near future That is exciting for your son, I hope his build is going well. We have been living in Baldivis for the last 5 years and love it Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 16Jun 19, 2015 11:56 am Oh we loved the Avonview! It was one of the first designs we looked at!! Love the changes the you made and your colour choices are fab as well. What a beautiful block, you must be very excited! We have been living in Baldivis for the last 5 years and love it Not being able to move straight in is the one thing I know will be frustrating, but as we are planning to paint and do floor coverings etc ourselves it will mean won't have to rush that process and do it properly. My son and I joke all the time as to who will win the build race and have their house keys first! He really liked Baldivas when he went down there looking for a block. His supervisor at work lives there and built with the same company and has been guiding him along with the process which has been really nice of him. Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 18Jun 19, 2015 12:20 pm nikkis2000 Oh we loved the Avonview! It was one of the first designs we looked at!! Love the changes the you made and your colour choices are fab as well. What a beautiful block, you must be very excited! Thanks Nikkis. The Avonview was the one design we kept going back to. As we are at that stage where our older three children have either left or are leaving home and we have only two more to see through teenage hood , we had decided that we didn't need to go with an overly large house. We also really wanted something that gave them and us our own spaces, so we liked the bigger room sizes as well. I am excited and impatient to get started, although all our contract paperwork arrived this week which has been daunting. I was reading through your thread at about 2am this morning and it was helpful to see you had the same concerns about contract signing and financing prestart costs. It seems a bit of a backward way to me that they give you an initial quote and the contracts to sign before you make further changes at prestart. I really would have liked to have that all sorted before signing everything so I knew where to cut costs. Hopefully our internal upgrades and changes wont add too much. Re: Building our forever home on 5 acres near Lancelin WA 19Jun 19, 2015 7:52 pm 2am! Well is suppose it's one cure for insomnia Yes I'm still not sure I entirely understand the concept of signing something before you know the full cost. I think in the main we got away with it. By the time we got to pre start we had a fairly good idea of what we were going to spend. Thanks mainly to the lovely peeps on this forum it has to be said!! We're at the stage now where we're realising we've made some rookie mistakes. Nothing we can't live with or raise a variation for. I guess if we were going to do it again we'd make the master suite and theatre a tad bigger so it's worth checking and double checking before you lock everything in! How exciting for you both That's great that you won't feel rushed with the painting and the floors, at least when you move in everything will be done which is a nice feeling Hi, Have used the Dulux 1 step, oil base on my walls(white set), out of can it’s already a more thinner product than a final coat paint Also in water base Water or… 3 4997 Thanks mate, is there a standard off the shelf type breathable product I can apply DIY?
