If one did 100 test holes, an absurd notion, of course, one would have a better picture. But the fact is that you have rock and no-one can tell you in advance what the costs will be. We can all be surprised. It will be worse if you cut the site because you get closer to that rock. Naturally it depends on the type of home, strip footings, slab, stumps etc. Given that the site is relatively flat, you may not have a huge problem. Good luck. Re: Geotech Report - Rock removal? 4Jun 13, 2015 9:19 am I'm always amazed that the geotechs for new homes only test a few m in from the boundaries which in some cases on larger blocks of land can be a long way from where the house will actually be built. Any engineers we've engaged to do soil testing we usually ask them to put down four bores on the corners of any house or addition we have been involved in. However, I know for a fact that the whole area (Oran Park, NSW) is salinity affected, so does this mean I still need a H Class slab? Or are they saying I might just need a S Class slab as that's what the report came back with? Slab should still be S, but if salinity is considered to be an issue some of the typical precautions can be: Use a higher strength concrete mix Sulphate resistant cement More important that water is not added on site More cover to reinforcement. Re: Geotech Report - Rock removal? 6Jun 13, 2015 9:52 am Is it a single storey or double storey home, Large or small home, contour survey? Do you want to raise the slab slightly with fill and retaining or cut and fill? There are many impacting variables to consider, IMO rock breaker isnt one You will need to weigh up the cost implications with the builder...and try to negotiate...but somehow I feel your builder has the upper hand here.
