As I will be doing other works around the house, I might play it safe and get things checked over before I get too ahead of myself. I certainly feel better about the plaster now, but I won't mind paying a small fee for that peace of mind. Asbestos fibres are considerably finer whereas in that photo they are quite coarse and as mentioned before probably a hemp based type.
