How long, or should I say How short is your double vanity?
Just wondering how long I need to make the cabinets for a double vanity to be comfortable.
If you can.. please post up some pics with your details.
Thanks in Advance

Re: Length Of Your Double Vanity? 6May 08, 2015 7:47 am Thanks guys, I'm really struggling trying to select the bath configuration I like most. Options 1. This option would put the Bathroom door close to the Toilet and sort of "hides" it around the corner of the hallway. I really like this option for convenience to washing your hands. Problem with this design is that the vanity units would need to be shorter to allow enough space for the door to open without hitting anyone that might be standing at the basin closest to the door. Tradeoff to this I guess is that I would have a space for a laundry basket. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Option 2 This option would put the Bathroom door into the wall in the Hallway (This is where the door is in the standard design) This option probably has the better configuration as it takes the vanity right away from the door and allows me to have longer cupboards. Tradeoff to this way is the Tub needs to go on the outside wall and will close up the space approaching the shower. It WONT affect the shower in any way.. but will just look a little busy? I guess people can walk a just a little bit further to wash their hands? Re: Length Of Your Double Vanity? 7May 08, 2015 8:31 am Roo, I like the second option actually however I would extend the toilet and put a basin in there as well to allow users to wash their hands. You have the space and as the pluming is on the other side it would be very simple to add the basin. Otherwise people have to walk around to the bathroom to wash their hands. Personally I like that set up as it is easy when guests are over and need to go. I would look at the spacing between the bath and vanity to even it out. You can also probably get a 1800 bath in their. You also have more options to put towel racks and hooks in the second choice. My vote is for the second option with the toilet extended for a wash basin. Ciao Re: Length Of Your Double Vanity? 8May 08, 2015 8:42 am The original toilet DID have is own basin but it was taking up space that we are using for bedroom robe. We also saved a bucket load by taking it out and reducing the length of WC (less tiles). It should basically only be family that use this area anyhow as the main pwdr room is downstairs Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Length Of Your Double Vanity? 9May 08, 2015 8:49 am Roo, you could always get them to install a basin like this in the WC. I don't think it would cost that much? Clarendon does Caroma. http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/basins/valette Or you could get a toilet with integrated basin. http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/toil ... hand-basin Re: Length Of Your Double Vanity? 10May 08, 2015 9:16 am Saint Mike Surely it depends on the size of the ensuite Is it double sink ? I like a bit of room either end and more (x 2) in the middle. Also wide enough. I like it to the wall - no little empty bits for dust and dirt to gather. We have good storage under too - eg 4 doors. Our width of ensuite is almost the same as bedroom - which is quite large. But - I'd go as big as ensuite allows - rather than something smaller. Oops - main bathroom ... Why not take bench to wall - near door - what will you use this space for ? Then mirror full length. You could move the sinks along a bit to allow room either side. As well as between. Your referring to Option 1? I DID have it all the way to the wall but the problem with that is that the basin is then brought closer to the door. If you were standing in front of that basin and someone opened the door.. you would be wiped out lol. Being the main "family" bath upstairs it's probably not that much of a issue but might be a bit yuk for anyone looking at it if we were to ever sell. Re: Length Of Your Double Vanity? 12May 08, 2015 5:57 pm I much prefer Option 1. I like that the sinks are nice and close to the toilet, and also like you mentioned, it looks more spacious - less busy than Option 2. Our vanity in our ensuite is a double sink vanity and is 2m, but doesn't get installed until Monday. Seeing it in the workshop for the first time, I thought 'that's huge'. I think 1.8m for a double vanity would be plenty big enough without bumping elbows with anyone. Yes - you'd need a rule - only use basin near shower. But - would look good if and when you sold. Mirror full length would add to "size". Re: Length Of Your Double Vanity? 14May 09, 2015 1:44 pm I'd say go option 1, but remove the door completely, and instead put a door between the basin area and the shower/bath area. See that's what forums are for.. someone will always see outside the square lol i LOVE this idea.. but it does cause some issues in itself.. like nowhere convenient to put a towel rail if the wall continues across for a door. Re: Length Of Your Double Vanity? 16May 13, 2015 2:37 pm the other suggestion for option 1 is to use a cavity sliding door instead of an opening door. In our build, we have opted for a single basin with more bench space and the vanity is 2.1 long. Our previous home had double basins in 1.8 long vanity and there was not enough bench space.
