Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 06, 2015 2:48 pm Hi all, I'm been getting a lot of idea from the forum, thank you for all your inputs (although not directly to us). Figure it's time to start our new thread to log our progress and contribute, hopefully anything from this thread can be useful for someone else. We bought a block of land in Brookleigh East Estate, Caversham WA. Land size is 450sqm, perfect rectangular 15m frontage. Less than 5 minutes away from winery, which was not the reason we bought the land, we're required to use minimum 8.6mm glass for the front of our house due to possible noise from winery machinery. Windows on the side of our house need to at least 6.3mm, a little bit over the top I think. Nothing we can do about it, regulated by council, developer did give us $5,000 discount to cover for the glass upgrade although we actually spend a little bit more than $5,000 worth of upgrade. Our builder is Persona Homes, we had our pre-start on 29/04/15. There are still a few things that are not finalized yet, I will post it in next post. Here's our house plan House plan is designed from scratch, with inspiration from other builders' plan. We will do our own internal painting to help with the budget. Might install our own laminate flooring, just did a practice run on our current master bedroom and it wasn't too bad, but the quote for the installation is not too bad as well. Due to stretched budget, the decking will probably only be installed next year After handover, we'll have the reverse cycle A/C and solar hot water system installed. We're still waiting for council approval, but here's hoping that the build can be finished before Christmas break so I have time to prepare the house. The warning is on the sticker on the door too.
