My carpet has been discontinued help me choose another one!

god its annoying when they discontinue them ! and it happens so often !

& when buying carpet with a pattern, join placement becomes ever so important as carpet manufacturers cant guarantee that they can make the patterns straight / square / without bowing in the middle !

most of them have a tolerance on the back of the sample showing how far out they can make it and that still be within that tolerance !

basically they are saying that they cant make it perfect and wont be their problem.

steveo - that is interesting about the patterns! I did ask the carpet layer where my joins would be, but he said I wouldn't need any!

OK so I have been back and got some more samples, taken them to the house and looked at them against the floor boards (the only other flooring apart from ensuite tiles that they will be up next to).

I am 90% sure which one I want but would love to hear everyone else's opinions first.

ok so from left to right we have:
1. the original one which we can't have
2. Spring Ridge in a light brown
3. Spring Ridge in a dark brown/mushroom
4. Augusta Lane in a light brown
5. Augusta Lane in 'Weathered Acorn' - is brown/olive green-y colour
All next to my floorboards

They are all 100% solution dyed nylon. One is considerably more expensive than the other...

H2B, she didn't write the name of the colour on the back of that one, only on the dark one. But I did see the word Bistro somewhere at WD today, so quite possibly! Is it one you considered?

I've got two large samples here tonight that I got from Epping Carpet this morning - Bistro and Rice Paper. I had previously chosen Rice Paper for the colour but lady suggested I look at Bistro as well. We took the samples to the house this afternoon and as much as I like the Bistro we are sticking with the Rice Paper.

I think the Augusta Lane is lovely.

Beaulieu actually referred me to Epping Carpets and lucky for me they gave me a great price

Love to know what you think...

I like the Weathered Acorn carpet...the darker coloured one as in this photo. The others are a little too light and stains, marks etc will be very noticeable. It all depends on what you think matches your other selections and it is really hard to see the true colour of all the samples on a computer screen. They all look nice so any of them will work

Sharee & H2B--You have both chosen the one I like

H2B I do remember another one being called Rice Paper and I remember thinking it wasn't as close to my original one's colour as the one I've got, so mine must be Bistro. It IS lovely isn't it? Feels very soft and luxurious!

It costs $115 per metre, my original one was $105, but I think they are going to do it for me for the same price, for the inconvenience.

Bristro is really nice and I loved the colour it just didn't go as well with our wall colour as the Rice Paper does. Agree it's very close to your original pick.

Epping did it for $104 and that's on the top/thickest underlay so I'm rapt as I need 54 lineal metres of it.

Mrs B - I originally wanted a dark mushroom colour, before I even started looking. But I got so used to my lighter coloured one, and the patterns should help hide stains hopefully!! If the Augusta Lane had a colour like the darker coloured Spring Ridge (which is more mushroomy) - I would have a very hard decision to make I think.

H2B - yes that's them! Bistro has more of a mushroomy feel to it, which is why I liked it better! (see above) Wow you got a good price for yours. What underlay did you choose?

Before you revealed your choice I was going to say the Augusta lane in the light brown too! It is very nice

Is it wool/nylon/80-20 ?

I was originally going with springtred foam underlay but after getting some advice from a few carpet shops I'm now having Platinum....I think it's platinum - thickest rubber underlay

Every carpet shop I've visited has spoke quite highly of Beaulieu carpets.

Yes great price. We are also having a Godfrey Hirst Shagpile in the HT from their Nuovo range

I just saw this thread donuts and I am voting for the Augusta Lane light brown aswell, Very nice choices though, you would really do well with any of those that you have chosen but yep Light brown for sure.

Donuts, I like the Spring Ridge brown /mushroom colour, but not the pattern. I prefer the pattern of the Augusta Lane.... but maybe over a larger area it might look nice. I am so over light carpets with my boys! :roll:

We had cream in the last house.... The darker the better IMO, esp when there is kids concerned. Or maybe my kids are just messy?

By the way, H2B, your selection of the Rice Paper looks great, the carpet compliments your wall colour beautifully!!!!

Thank you Phoenix. I knew what type of colour I wanted, found it easily when I went to WD a short time ago, there are so many different shades of one colour......... :shock:

I agree, I think the light carpet is not such a good idea with kids.

All kids are messy. :wink:

The darker carpet will look lighter over a bigger area.

The augusta lane is definitely the nicest pattern..... really think hard about the colour donuts.
This is a decision where it shouldn't just be about what looks best, but also what is most practical. And the reality is light carpets get dirty.

Sorry if I sound bossy..... :shock:

bel - it's 100% nylon. DH has allergies and everyone we have spoken to recommends nylon because of this.

H2B - we are having the platinum underlay too

Is Beaulieu who make them? I thought you were talking about another blogger before! :oops:

Phoenix - I agree, the darker colour in the Spring Ridge is really lovely. The pattern I didn't mind but it just felt thin and not as nice next to the Augusta Lane.

I think you'll be right with the Bistro, colour is great, not too light not too dark. Good choice :wink:
