Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Mar 16, 2015 9:26 pm Hi.
I have a concrete salt water pool which is 15 years old. The top off the pool coping and adjacent large cincrete pavers have most of the grout eroded away and the grout needs replacing. I've already ground out all the old grout and need to regrout next. the pavers around the pool are laid directly on to the pools single concrete structure . There appears to be no expansion joints anywhere in the structure of the pool.and adjoining 2 meter wide paver deck running down one side of the pool. my question is whether my regrouted pavers need expansion joints every 4 metres or so? or can i avoid needing expansion joints at all as the pavers are all laid on a the pools single unbroken structure? Re: regrouting pavers around pool. do i need expansion joint 2Mar 17, 2015 12:59 pm As a general rule all rigid paving on a concrete base around a pool should a caulked expansion joint between the coping and the main paving, on each corners of the pool coping and in the centre of the long sides of the pool coping and the under side of coping to water line tiles, this would be a minimum to do. In terms of the main paved areas expansion joint location would depend on a few different factors - location of stress point in concrete slab location of surface drains structures like pergola/s post installed into concrete base etc Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: regrouting pavers around pool. expansion joints? See pic 3Mar 18, 2015 9:14 pm Hi David, Thanks for your thoughts. I've just included some pics in my original post which show my pool. I have a couple of questions: Q) Since my pool has skinny sides on 3 of its 4 sides, I was thinking it might only be necessary to run the coping's expansion joint along the side which has the large paved area connected. I will however put the expansion joins running outwards from the pool in each corner and in the middle of the long side as you suggest. Does this seem reasonable still? Q) I was considering using that poly backing rode material with a offwhite sealant applied on top of it with a caulking gun. Can you recommend a sealant to use? Does Sikaflex produce a good product for this job? Thanks, Phil Re: regrouting pavers around pool. expansion joints? See pic 4Jul 23, 2015 11:41 pm Sikaflex or Bostik seal n flex are two polyurethane sealants that will be fine for this job, they come in a range of colours and are also paintable once dry, backing rod should be applied to expansion joints especially if they exceed 10mm wide/deep...hope this helps I use the stuff regularly Thanks again Simeon for being so elaborate. Appreciate it. Its gives us a very idea. Kind Regards 4 3665 Hi All, First time poster. I was hoping to get some advice on villaboard installation within a bathroom. I have installed villaboard before, in a laundry. I think I did… 0 7465 |
