Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 17, 2006 12:06 pm Hi all,
In all of the houses that I've ever lived in we have had our floor boards polished in high gloss. The surface has generally worn pretty good more as a result of us taking care of it. We intend to continue looking after our new floors in the same way however I would like to which surface wears better - gloss, satin or matt. We are having brush box parquetry fitted to our new home and have advised the builder that we would like a satin finish. This is our way of comprimising between a glossy surface which would be higher maintenance and a better look than matt. Re: Polished boards/parquetry - Gloss, satin or matt?? 3Jul 25, 2006 8:56 am My personal preference is Satin 'cos it doesn't show up all the dirt as much. Also, the high gloss does scuff in the traffic areas but the satin remains more consistent for longer.
Don't know about maintainence and service life though but I would recommend satin myself. Make sure that you get the chance to see a satin floor before you decide though, you never know you may not like the look of it! I asked this question of one of the forum's resident cabinet makers who may/may not wish to identify himself to answer other questions if he sees this, but the rersponse… 3 7731 I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1938 |
