I think you'll have to head a fair way out or you'll be paying a premium for land that could be developed. Kurmond have some acreage style designs that might be worth checking out. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not a fan of Kurmond actually. I'm told they were caught out previously copying a Felton Homes design.... As for the land, I have noticed a small premium in Nelson for acreage, despite it not being in the Box Hill release area. All the other areas are priced as you would expect. The difficulty is finding land for our requirements. I'm quite fussy and want a wide block (80m) without much bushland! Re: Building on Acreage - North West Sydney 4Apr 07, 2015 5:08 pm Hi, This is something my other half and I want to do one day ... but what caught my eye about your post was that you liked Morrison Homes. We used them for a reno, Ryan is the charmer, and that's where his expertise starts and ends. Do yourself a favour and don't use Morrison. Our neighbours used Morrison Homes and have had their driveway dug up twice due to drainage issues, less than 12 months after completion. Good luck Re: Building on Acreage - North West Sydney 5Apr 07, 2015 6:50 pm sleahy Hi, This is something my other half and I want to do one day ... but what caught my eye about your post was that you liked Morrison Homes. We do have quite a long list of builders actually, they were just a snippet! Merit, Meadowbank, Young, Buildcraft, Australian Colonial, New England and Homestead are on the list too. It could be a while before we find the right parcel of land. Not much on the market currently. Re: Building on Acreage - North West Sydney 6Apr 08, 2015 10:24 am just going a bit off the topic, how much extra do you think you would be paying for buying a plot of land in the first release itself for Box Hill? Since that is a very new suburb, what do you think would be the cost of land there, and wouldn't it be a better idea to have that, instead of taking the risk of buying and building on acreage itself? I am a noob on this, so don't have too much idea on all this so far. I'm already in the Hills on residential, so I wouldn't consider moving to Box Hill. I'd estimate a block of land in Box Hill would be around $650k. Acreage is somewhere around twice that. For me, buying acreage is a lifestyle choice, and will provide open space and the opportunity to keep a few animals. This is the best choice for me. My wife and I have done enough research and are comfortable with all the issues. The main issue is block selection - waiting patiently for the right one and securing it.
